They do all seem to correspond with the positions on a clock, so I think One-Eye is right. No idea how we get the letters for those positions from the text though...1

It's not based on the pigpen cipher used in Assassin's Creed -- that gives you "AQEMRNMF" which doesn't mean anything either.2

My answer below is NOT correct so don't blindly type it in because it's bold.
I was looking at the symbols based on the likelihood of them being particular letters based on where they are. The last letter is probably "E" and that means that one before it is "T" which is the same as the fourth letter, so we have:
[] [] [] T [] [] T E
I guessed "TRATE" for the last five, which lead me to "CONTRATE" (which is NOT correct; I'm out of guesses for today now), but it would have fit nicely:
CONTRATE: having gear teeth set on the face of the wheel and perpendicular to its plane : relating to such an arrangement —used of a wheel in timepieces having verge or platform escapements.

I don't know how it works out re: the pigpen cipher (it was the fourth and last letter being the same that let me figure it out), but the answer relates to a chair / professorship that Hawking held at Cambridge.5

Thanks to @intellishark comment, I've got it as well. Look at Wikipedia and, by George, you'll find it too. 😉😉2

I got it by trial and error too, using the starting letters of words in the email. Constants, Uniform, Accuracy, Lecture, Non-relativistic, Supernovae, Individual.5

Well done to all of you, the Q&A had nothing related to Horology, completely out of context2
