0% credit card promotional date mix up - anything I can do?

Hi all,

long story short, I made an error with the end dates of my 0% promotional period, putting it in my calendar as completely the wrong date.  I happened to check my accounts this weekend and spotted the 0% period already ended so I'm secretly being charged silly money on that debt (despite it not showing on any statements or otherwise.)

Luckily, it has only ended up being about 50GBP in total but it still frustrates the life out of me that I've been so dumb.  Is there any way I'm getting this money back from the bank or forgiven or anything?

Or is it time to suck it up an hang my head in shame?

Although frustrating, don't dwell on it.
IMHO - you won't be able to get the interest payments back as the terms stated when the 0% deal was ending.

If possible get another BT offer elsewhere and make a plan to clear the balance before the BT deal expires next time.
Whether you can or can't get another BT card, head over to the DFW boards to see what hints & tips are available for you to reduce your outgoings and throw extra pennies at the debt.

  • Unfortunately it's your responsibility to make a note of when the promotional period expires - the card company have done nothing wrong.

I must admit I find this a little surprising.  Most lenders will have a note on each statement detailing when the 0% period expires.  I'm not saying I don't believe you - it's just that in my experience it's on each statement you receive.

I might be missing something obvious but I actually cannot see the current offer on the M&S statement which is weird

For the other ones I have or had is is shown. Barclays on the second page top left (as I view it in the app) lists all my active BTs, current balance and end date, Natwest iirc it was at the bottom of the page though they split it into balance and fees (albeit all on 0% interest), Santander is on the third page with the balance and end date

Some of the card companies will send an email when the end is coming and/or print the end date on each statement, those i feel are been more responsible.

Some wont do either though and you simply have to make a note of when the date ends.
  • It's fairly normal for banks to offer goodwill refunds when people make mistakes.

While I wouldn't bet on them agreeing to do so in this case (especially if you haven't paid it all off), it can't hurt to politely ask.
