Just to add my first bill did have the correct meter reading on it.  BG were incompetent last time I was with them & also the time before but that first time was over 40 years ago so perhaps I should forgive them that one.  But I don't think I will!

Yep, same thing confused me momentarily. I'm with Eon for electricity only (we don't have mains gas). They emailed to say that due to price rises, they'd be changing my DD from £71 per month to £28 per month...

Which actually means it's increasing to £95 (£67+£28) after the subsidy ends (barring further price rises).
  • Octopus have automatically reduced our monthly DD from £150 to £83 with effect from 1st October.  This looks to be in anticipation of £67 being credited to our energy account next month via the government's subsidy scheme.

Unfortunately their "Balance Forecast" tool (aka the 'Slider of Doom'!) doesn't appear to be working at the moment / hasn't caught up with the latest changes, so this makes it a little more difficult to track the likely impact...

Going to be difficult to keep all of this stuff meaningful until the tariffs are adjusted and everyone is actually on that tariff, so should be fine in another week, but a bit disjointed until then.

So they have reduced the DD by the GOV refund, are they then going to increase the DD again to take account of the increase in prices?

Meter reading on the to-do list!!!!!!  I will be doing one on the 28th & another on the 30th.  Thankfully I did that last time as shock & surprise their systems went down so come 31st I couldn't actually enter them.

My Octopus account would have me in an early grave.  So as of today.

So firstly the balance forecast says I am paying £150 per month and they recommend £158.

Returning to my energy account it says

From 01/10/2022, you'll be paying £83.00 on the 12th of each month so guess with Govs £67 it arrives at £150.

Can I ask will they just automatically lower my DD to £83.  This assumption from them makes little sense, my electric is around £80 to £90 per month during summer, gas has been lower as only really using combi to heat water around £20 give or take.
Yep have several summer months where accumulated £150 credit, but am I missing something like price rise on 1st October.

    Confused

Your account will receive £83 from you and £66 or £67 from the Government, so £150 will be going into it...
Your Octopus account probably already shows that your next payment will be £83 so your DD has been adjusted...

Yes, in many instances, will be email notification for DD increase suggestion.

Customers can increase DD themselves if they wish to ..
  • I was paying by Debit Card on receipt of bill. I just set up a DD to get a cheaper rate. It automatically said I would be paying variable, which is what I wanted anyway but was surprised there was no option for variable or fixed.
