Hi all, so this is my first post. I need help please. So Iv recently left SSE energy and joined octopus energy. SSE sent me my final estimated bill for the period of December 2021-august2022 of £3650.00. When I joined them I gave them the metre reading which was given to me by my housing officer. I chose a fixed tariff which was for £39.99 and every month this payment was going out. I explained to SSE I don’t have access to the meter cupboard, only the caretaker has the key. They said it was fine, I didn’t think much of it. Now they’re telling me I owe them £3650!! My kids are at school and I’m at work during the day so the only time we use electric is in the evening and weekends. Please advise me on what else I can do! How can they estimate that mad bill! Thank you

You have to find out the ACTUAL meter reading as soon as possible.2

You need to get the actual reading but I’d think if you have only been paying £39.99 a month you will have a big bill to catch up with.4

What meter reading did you give Octopus if you haven't got access to the meter cupboard. ?
You must get access to that meter cupboard and read the meter .
WHere on earth did the figure of £39.99 come from ? Is that for gas and electric ? Either way it sounds very, very, very lowNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill2 -
The caretaker for the flat works during the day but there’s 4 blocks that he covers, so sometimes we’d bump into him. So 2 days before I joined octopus energy I bumped into the caretaker and he opened the cupboard for the meter that’s when I got the reading.0

Why is it an estimated final bill if you gave a meter reading? How much are you now paying octopus?
Do you have other meter readings from when you were with SSE and how long were you with them?1 -
You are being billed for a period starting with an estimated reading, You need an actual reading.

I’m paying octopus energetic £66.00 a month. Iv attached a picture of the bill. So I moved into the property last year May and left sse this year august.

So it is based on an actual reading. Are you able to get back in contact with the caretaker and check he gave you the correct reading? Are you sure there should be a 2 in front of the 1916?1
