Your boiler will also be using something, the older it is the more it'll use
The boiler is old, but we're rented, so unless it conks out, we're stuck with it!

If it makes you feel better, our empty house was using nearly 5.5kwh per day back in August. (Two bed end terrace). At that time we had absolutely no concept of what was normal!

We’ve since bought a replacement fridge & freezer and our use plummeted immediately. We have not been away again but, even so, our usage has gone under 4kwh a couple of times - one of those was when I was WFH all day. It’s amazing what a difference it has made.

We are going away for a couple of nights soon and I’m looking forward to seeing what usage is registered for those days. I’m hoping it will come down to 2 - 2.5kwh.
It's crazy that people are replacing appliances to save power.  Not sure if your FF was on its last legs or not?  I replaced my FF last year, for a bigger, more efficient one. Sold my old one.  I didn't replace because of the energy crisis. It's not American style.   It's saved money by meaning I don't have to pop to the shops so often. So use less diesel! You know, like you go in for one item, and come out with 10 that you don't really need.  None of that for me anymore. Food stays fresher longer.

Hope your usage does go down 🤞🏼

Any TV box/recorder left on? - I know some BT boxes for example use 20 watts/hour on standby, while modern TVs use a max of 0.5W on standby
    All off on holiday time.

It's not crazy, as prices for energy rises, combined with appliances with better and better efficiency the break even point from throwing(selling the old) and buying new can be a few years and we'll within 5 year guarantees(where offered)

It is a different mindset and involves some calculation but it certainly is not "crazy"

It really isn't crazy at all. The difference in energy usage between some older fridge-freezers and modern equivalents means that  cost of the replacement is recouped far quicker than you're probably thinking (at current electricity prices), and also has the benefit of using less electricity.

The fish tank could easily use ~ 60W.
It would be some set up to use 60W unheated and unlit.  I have a large external canister filter and large twin output air pump and they use under 20W combined.

My large external uses 40W, lights (LED) 20W (12 hours a day)

FF seem to be something people hang to for years but older models can use more than 6 times the power of a modern efficient one.
Not specially for a power saving but I looked for energy usage as I didn't want consumption to be too much higher when (about 4 years ago) replaced a then 10 year old 32" non smart tv with a new 40" smart one (both flat screen Panasonics) and the old smaller TV (now bedroom) uses about 50% more energy than the smart bigger one

My 35 year fridge freezer has been replaced with a newish small freezer that uses 50W when it is on. I did have just the ancient fridge running but the hot weather made it too expensive so I have stopped using it. I actually bought the freezer as back-up during Covid rather than cutting electricity costs so it worked out well. If I got rid of the freezer as well my food costs would be crazy as I bulk buy discounted frozen chicken, fish and scampi when I can get a discount on a discount from the supermarkets (£15 off £60 shop etc).
  • Did you know that frost free freezers can use up to twice as much electricity per year as manual defrost freezers?
