Big Changes for E7 as part of EPG

  • Here are my EDF E7 SVR rates to apply from 01-Oct, also on monthly direct debit:

    day 43.93p/kWh, night 13.65p/kWh, standing charge 49.26/day

    My region is South Wales.

The 6.9p new night time price listed by mmmmikey for East Midlands sounds very low. Usually the price difference between regions is around a penny per unit or less.

I wonder if somebody at the company has put a wrong figure into their computer and it might change between now and 01-Oct when corrected. If not then 6.9p/kWh sounds very good - cheaper than gas.

Nothing would surprise me really. It's a fast moving situation and mistakes are made. However (a) East Midlands has consitently been one of the least expensive regions for buying electricity with one of the biggest night/day differentials (b) this can't be a simple typo because the rates are consistent with British Gas rates at the level of the Ofgem cap (4200kWh). So I'm leaning towards believing that these are the correct figures. Based on the previous caps, I expect EDF will publish their tariff tables in the next day or so and we'll know for sure.

Agreed, it is entirely consistent mathematically, just weird in the context of the other regions.

Perhaps it is to do with a perceived issue with meeting the peak usage time demand specific to that region, that would be consistent with the general change in these E7 tariffs to incentivise off peak usage even more.

Still Ms Truss has promised no blackouts or rationing so I'm not worried....

East Midlands does seem to be an outlier. It will be interesting to see all the rates side by side in a table. I wonder if it's because we're so close to the North Sea offshore wind farms so there's an abundance of locally generated cheap power overnight - or something along those lines?

East Midlands and South East for all payment options, but also many of the other regions on pre-payment.
