lovely post to read, great you have your parents still around to enjoy spending time with, I look back on time spent with my in laws on holiday very fondly so am glad we were able to do it when we were all healthy.
As with everything, balance is key. You are an astute business man so you will have applied the same reasonable level head to your household finances. As you are old enough to have seen interest rate fluctuations and are realistic enough to take heed of those even older than you that lived through the15% mortgages, im sure you have looked at servicing your mortgage if interest rates are up when any current deal comes to an end plus if any drop in business income happens around the same time - worst case scenario planning. But if all that stacks up and you are searching for best price for any holidays you decide to take, cashback cards or deals etc, aren't spending money on things you could get cheaper or monthly outgoings that you aren't really using any more, have savings in place for the home improvements you intend doing etc etc then you are in a perfect place to go as many breaks as you can. Go them, enjoy them, look forward to them and look back on them, lovely happy times
Fabulous to see you moving into this new phase of life.

While clearing debts is a good thing I think doing things as a family is more important while your son is still young. There will come a time when either parents become embarrassing and he won't want to be with you or simply he wants to do his own thing and be with his mates. Enjoy your time as a family so you all have good memories no matter what happens in the future.4

Thanks all, your comments were very welcome - I know I could be a lot better with money still but making memories with my little family has become really important to us. Not just holidays, although I've caught the bug now: this year is planned, two are planned for 2027 with an outline for the rest. Got the bones of a 2028 trip in mind for my wife's 40th too ha.
No idea how we're a week into February already. Here's hoping the weather improves over the next few weeks and we get some little sign of spring - been such !!!!!! miserable weather here. Can't pretend it doesn't affect my mood.
Haven't really thought about my personal finances much beyond the usual checks to make sure everything is ticking along.
I've had to face how much I've changed over the past few years not just in terms of holidays, following a client choosing to take his business elsewhere because he preferred the kind of approach I had a few years back. Still have ongoing issues between myself and a former employee too. Can't please everyone but the work I've done with the pros has changed me, and not for the better in some people's eyes. My wife is looking after me and I keep reading through the lists I've continually added to since I got serious about sorting my addiction and mental health issues. Still a bitter pill to swallow and a bit !!!!!! sad really.

You can't please everyone.
You are doing great. Looking forward to hearing about your holidays.
We have cancelled our summer holiday this year so we can concentrate on getting the new house in some sort of order but we do intend to head across to Europe again later in the year for a couple of weeks. We are heading to Poland this year.
I'm intrigued about your 2028 plans now.
Even we don't plan that far ahead 🤣🤣🤣

There loss mate, the work you have done to not only improve your own mental state and well being but to make your family the priority is something you should be extremely proud of.
I’m the same with money shift too, ive become increasingly aware of how quick my girl is growing up and eventually we become uncool parents 🤣so I want to give her the best memories I can. Of course slowly building a good financial future in the background helps but right now making memories is the aim for me.

Well done Alt, for those that matter you've changed for the better.
We've also got our 2028 holiday in mind, it'll be our 25th wedding anniversary, and it'll also be the very first proper holiday my Husband and I have ever had on our own.
