I was on the streets for a bit at 17 because I had no family and ran away from my partner who repeatedly beat and raped me. I was not and have never been a drug addict.

Did you get any help from the cuddly wuddly charities with that ?, I remember when I was kicked out of "home" at 18 with police assistance and in the evening (so a bit difficult to find anything at that time)

So I cycled from Sutton to Kew Bridge station and slept there , then Isleworth station then broke into a building in Slough and slept there - autumn weather I think also used to use Heathrow Airport

No big deal of course , I wasn't working but had about £600 savings from previous work (not that the parent knew that)
I didn't really know how to get accommodation though and would have ripped off by the first landlord I approached
they knew I didn't have anywhere to sleep and laughed , it was obvious because I had a mail sack with my belongings
    in

I managed to get a box room for £25 a week in Slough with a decent landlord , but it took a few days of sleeping "rough"

I doubt that I would have been able to get anything in Sutton / Kingston /Hounslow but Slough was cheap at the time

Childline claims to be a helpline for children and young people - is 18 classed as "young person" ? because I phoned them first and they refused to speak to me

£600 for rent wouldn't last long today and I didn't know how to claim benefits , indeed the CAB said I wouldn't get any - but that was rubbish of course (with hindsight the advisor as a bit right-wing lol)
agency work in East London travelling from Slough (often cycling) and living on cans of sardines or baked beans etc

Before I was 18 I rembember being kicked out at night a few times so I had to travel on the night buses and sleep at Heathrow Airport - whats the age limit for Child rate Travelcards ?, 16 I think so I may have been the only under 16 on the night buses - I didn't see any others , sleeping in Kingston bus garage when the tramp was living there , Uxbridge garage , Heathrow Airport - you probably get quite a few under 16's on the night buses these days though

The male parent died over 6 years ago , I checked with the probate office 2 years ago and he left everything to my sister
I'm not bothered ,but it saves wondering about it and not knowing
You mention that you have no family in your post and from a quick glance of your previous posts I see that you seem to be leading a happy life and your interests include shortbread, sponsored runs , charity fundraising , walnuts and carbon footprint . I didn't notice any posts suggesting that you are disadvantaged in any way

I get appeal letters from homeless charities , wasn't it the Salvation Army that sent a christmas card with its letter suggesting that the homeless don't get christmas cards and could I sign it and return it with a donation

I've got a nice stack of chistmas cards - they are all from companies sent to their mailing list
and my birthday present is a box of truffles sent by Sainsburys in the form of a voucher and free P&P from some mail order catalouges

I have no interest in helping the "homeless" or homeless charities - that makes me a nasty git I suppose , mind you all the pro charity posters here seem to be leading happy contented lives with their shortbread , horse chestnuts etc so I suppose it makes them feel good to give something to the less advantaged - like that secret millionaire chap on TV

    your a !!!!!! mate

    you said here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=4782956&postcount=22

"That said i would not have much to complain about if i was getting several bags of skunk pushed through my letter box daily."
  • Why do these "homeless beggars" so often beg for money for a "cup of tea" presumably from a cafe , I don't buy tea from cafes as it is cheaper to make my own at home so why should I pay for them to have cafe tea

They could easily get an Ikea family card and get free tea from the Ikea restaurant - thats what I do

Mr Humperdinck I think you need to address your anger issues regarding "the male parent" to your Sister, not here on this board.

Wow - where did a post about someone wanting to help become so downright nasty?

Just for the record, homelessness is caused by many things. No two people are the same and many people who are street homeless are either very young or have some kind of mental illness.

Of course, this post isn't intended to instil sympathy in people that clearly lack any kind of empathy but more to perhaps nudge people to think 'what knowledge am I contributing to the debate' before posting :)

This thread was just about giving clothes to people who need them, thats not unreasonable.
