    Well spotted.
I binned the card when the travel insurance was pulled, couldn't remember if the £5 fee was dropped or not - that was 5 years ago.
Can't recall what I did 5 minutes ago nowadays.
I do remember that you could withdraw Sterling at a UK ATM without a fee or interest - as long as the monthly statement was settled within its payment timescale.
UK ATM part still true today.  £5/pm fee stopped when insurance was dropped.

  • Hi,
I've still got my Gold Card (from 2011), kept purely to benefit from the zero foreign fees. I used it daily last month in Lanzarote and there were no fees applied and the conversion was as shown on the Mastercard currency calculator using zero fee rate.

I messaged them via the banking web site about the card before going abroad:

      Hi there,
      Thanks for getting in touch.

Below are some of the benefits which are included with the Gold Mastercard, confirming the above question:

      -No cash advance fee
      -No foreign exchange fee
      -No balance transfer fee
      -Double Nectar points
-Interest free credit on purchases and cash withdrawals if the balance is paid off in full and on time each month

      Kind regards

    • Hi, I've had this Sainsburys Gold Mastercard for a long time and remember when it had the £5/month fee and included travel insurance. I know the fee and travel insurance has been removed for a few years but could you please confirm my specific card still has no foreign transaction and cash fees. Thanks

However just this morning I've received a letter saying Euro transactions will be charged on your Sainsbury's Bank Credit Card at our standard foreign exchange fee of 2.75% which was temporarily paused as a result of EU Cross Border Payment Regs. I believe this is a mass communication and shouldn't apply to the gold card as there wasn't another change to the T&C issued to my knowledge. I intend to message them again to confirm this is not applicable the 2011/12 Gold Card.

I had the same communication (by email).  I assume it does not apply to "us" Golden oldies, but will be very interested in any reply you receive.

Groveling letter just in, saying "As a Gold card customer your rate will stay at 0% meaning you won't be charged a fee for any foreign exchange or cash transactions".

Ditto, got my letter a couple of days ago.  At least they apologised for their 'administrative error'. So it stays a great card for foreign spending.

My OH had her Sainsbury Gold Card account used fraudulently in April by someone buying Tiktok !! online in Dublin.

Riased it and a new card was sent which was never used. I used mine to book flights with Ryanair and 10 days later someone used her account again from Dublin to buy Vapes online !

Not been impressed with Sainsbury when calling to report the fraud hanging on for 90mins, if it weren't 0% I'd ditch it

Interesting, I have had multiple separate incidents using my Gold (or additional) cards - sometimes with a card that has never been used.  Smacks of an inside job.  Cards replaced each time, but it is a pain having to deal with it. And once was just before travel so I did not have this card to use abroad (luckily I have multiple FX friendly cards).

Apologies in advance for the banal question - is the physical gold card a different design to the normal Sainsbury's Bank design (orange with spot UV circles)?

At one time (way back) I think it was different.  If I recall, it had "Gold" written on it.  But same old now I think.  I have never had a non-Gold one from Sainsbury's so not sure if this is identical.

Does anyone know which banks allow you to withdraw cash (from this credit card)  direct to current account ?
