Neo Energy and Octopus

The distinction has been made a couple of times, and it's an important one.
Neo Energy didn't hold a supply licence. The company that did was UK Energy Incubator Hub Ltd.
Neo Energy didn't go into administration, UKEHI did.
Neo Energy was not part of the SOLR process, UKEHI was.
Sort of similar (but actually very different in many ways) to a broker/retailer arrangement in that you can end being pursued by one when the other has gone bust, or how a supplier can let you out of a contract but you might still need to pay a broker commission.0 -
Even that set up gets alarm bells ringing of directors playing fast and loose with company structures.
The Filing History of the company suggests it was a game to confuse from day one.0 -
I have just been hit with a 3k final bill with this shower also. I have went through their invoice and noted a gas reading of 33600 in May 22. That should be 23600 ! Means I have used over 10000 units gas according to their figures. I have a reading the day I joined to the day I left which is a total of 1200 units total. I may not be the only one they have tried this on.
Just sent an email telling them their mistake and to re calculate.
Fraudsters, glad to be away from them.

Cheers. I think I'm probably about square with them, but that's not stopped them sending me a bill for £643 as a result of laughable errors on their part. So I've detailed their errors by email, then sent a series of follow up emails. I am now swithering whether to send them an actual letter, or just wait and see if they take any action. The bill was supposedly due for payment on 27th September.Same as you the emails show I've pointed out their errors and asked them to review/cancel their bill.I wonder if they have an appetite for litigation in a Scottish court?0

My final wrong payment of 3k is 27th October. I await their next move. Will be sending a recorded delivery letter to their registered address also just as more evidence I am telling them they are in the wrong.0

OP here, having similar issues. To recap, was sent absurd invoice, for pretty much twice annual usage, despite making monthly DDs. Questioned it, no response. Forwarded details to Octopus, along with the subsequent Neo reminders and told to ignore, being sorted by themselves and Neo. Went quiet, but today received threat of debt collection by Neo - suspect this is a scam, lots of upper case words in the email, numerous grammatical errors and such like. Not what you’d expect of a communication of this nature. I’ve replied, asking again for justification of their charges. Generic reply ‘we’ll get back to you’. And then before I could even send an email to Octopus updating with the latest, get an email supposedly from Octopus telling me this is all genuine?? Given I’d not even contacted Octopus today, it’s remarkable that they replied. What the hell is going on here? My concern is that as someone calling themselves ‘Octopus’ has replied to an email that I’d not even sent, who is receiving my emails and which responses are real?0

I think this is legitimate incompetence, rather than an absolute scam. By that I mean that if their bill covering the period up to 9th July was correct, and money was owing for that period, then Neo would be entitled to collect it.The problem of course is that my Neo final bill is laughably incorrect, billing for months before I actually started with them, not recognising some of my payments and using incorrect tariffs. It sounds like yours is pretty similar.By the way in case you're not aware, debt collectors have no actual power, all they can do is ask you to pay. Personally if a DC contacted me about this I'd go straight back to them, say the bill is wildly incorrect, Neo have been told a zillion times and not responded, and you're not going to enter into discussions with a third party. When I had a DC chasing me for an SSE bill they didn't have any of the facts so wouldn't have been able to discuss it anyway. All they had was my name, address and a figure.I've still heard nothing, but I think I'll send them another email anyway.0
