YORKSHIRELASS said:This always baffles me. Two of us here in a standard 3 bed semi-detached house. Everything is electric as we have no mains gas and the oil boiler uses electric for the pump, so a double whammy there.
We only put the washing machine on a couple of times a week, hardly ever use the drier. Both of us out of the house at work most days during the week, one shower each a day maximum. We never use the main oven, we use the slow cooker or mini oven instead. The oil boiler is hardly ever on during summer.
And we still have used an average of a little over 10 units a day in August! Our average across the year is 12.6 units. The only consolation is that our usage has gone down 23% since our two sons left home.
Cooker/hob/oven
Tumble drier
cold fill washing machine
Dishwasher
Electric shower
Hot tub heater?

soup maker 1000w
bread maker 600w
kettle 3000w

We were using 18-20khw per day. After making multiple changes we got it down to 8khw per day. We can't cut it down anymore unless we switch off the CCTV, Fridges and the Wifi Router. And my wife isn't keen on doing any of those 3 things0

The issue isn't the power consumption of the kettle, it is whether you waste any water when you boil it.
And don't forget that every single watt of energy that goes into that kettle (or any elec device) is kept inside your house and contributes to heating the house anyway, so if your heating is on then it will offset the energy consumption of the heating (if thermostatically controlled)

Just to add the Friday tally to my previous post, we pawned the kids off on a friend around lunch time so the telly was on much less than it has been so Friday was a nice surprise of 5.5kwh

is the amount of empty space above the water a factor in the time they switch off?
i boil-tested 2 3kw kettles with 2 cups of water in each, the new "fast boil" was 10 seconds faster...

The FF is on a thermostat so is on/off at will, the wifi isnt needed when your asleep (unless your CCTV needs it?)
