Most electricity should come from nuclear power and gas comes the north sea.
It wouldn't reduce the price.   The problem is global supply and demand and too much reliance on dictators.  The UK Government cannot control global pricing.   Collective Governments from around Europe and the some others around the world made poor decisions as they fell for globalisation and thought the peace dividend was here to stay.

There are questions to be asked about the UK energy policy.  However, that is a Labour policy enacted in 2008, which was continued under the coalition and the subsequent conservative governments.  There were warnings issued prior to that act from the regulator as well as others, but they were ignored, and future governments didn't heed them either.  So, all parties are culpable for the homegrown issues.

I'm cutting down on gas costs.
Knocking several degrees off the thermostat and wearing warmer clothes will reduce your energy use. It won't reduce your price compared to last year, but your reduced usage should help keep it affordable.

Do all the things that were considered normal in the 70s and early 80s.

Anyone who has ever slept in a tent will tell you that whilst the fabric will shelter you from the elements it is the sleeping bag that keeps you warm and unless properly aired the condensation gets everything damp. Better to take the advice given above and buy better curtains and layer up your bed.

I have sat in a camper van watching TV when the temperature was -9c and been warm enough.
I had 4 pairs of xxl primark jogging trousers on (£6 ea) several pullovers and a fleece jacket, and a thick wooly hat and balacalava.
Its a matter of covering as much as possible as thickly as possible.
I can't see the thin fabric in a tent making any difference indoors - maybe outdoors when its windy.

layers is good but i would worry about bundling up too much. it is important to keep moving (both for heat and for health) and too many layers can discourage that.

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Go back to the 'old' days of wearing winceyette pyjamas with bed socks and taking a hot water bottle to bed with you.  Add a bedspread for good measure.  Not my personal choice, you understand.... I wear just my skin to bed, along with a 10.5 tog winter duvet and a window open the whole year round.  When you wake up in the morning, make sure your clothes are already tucked in at the bottom of the bed - that way they will be warm when you put them on.

As others have said, think duvets and electric blankets for the bedroom, not a tent  :).

Personally I don't see any real problem with putting a tent in your bedroom. Bed tents are a thing (although mostly sold for children).
OP you'll probably prefer a self-supporting tent that doesn't need pegs or guylines. One of those pop-up ones might work well. You might need to put your mattress on the floor inside the tent, since small tents rarely have enough headroom to accommodate a normal divan.

Its strange how a government with an 80 seat majority seemingly had no one vote for it.
I'd suspect that many of their voters aren't sat struggling to work out how to pay energy bills, so under-represented here.
