  • My question would be ..,  if the claim failed who would be paying the legal fees ??

The way I read it ... the case has been proven and they are processing the compensation..... so the fees are already baked into the original Judgement..... search for the court documents as described in an earlier post 👍

  • Will do that thanks !
  • Not heard anything since - but if I recall correctly, this is due for payment next month.  Let me know if you hear something - or actually get the payment!

I had four qualifying periods of either two or three weeks - can't remember how long. I understand that for UK the funds will be sent by way of a prepaid Mastercard.

Having a little experience of USA court proceedings, I suspect this might not be over for a while.

  • Has anyone received their payment yet ? I’ve submitted my claim but haven’t heard anything yet

Not heard a thing yet.  Presumably the next communication will be with money.

I sent an email query and received an email reply on 23 Jan 2023 stating:

Thank you for contacting the Venerus, et. al. v. Avis Budget Settlement Administrator.

The Claims Filing deadline for this case was January 13, 2023. Claims processing is currently ongoing and you will be contacted if any further information is required to complete your claim. If you need to update your address or contact information, you may do so by sending an email to this address.

The Court will hold a Final Approval Hearing on November 10, 2022. The hearing may be moved to a different date or time without additional notice, so check www.VenerusCarRentalInsurance.com for current information. At the Final Approval Hearing the Court will consider whether the Settlement is fair, reasonable, and adequate. If there are objections or comments, the Court will consider them at that time. After the hearing, the Court will decide whether to grant final approval to the Settlement. We do not know how long these decisions will take.

If the Settlement is approved and no appeals are filed, distribution will occur once claims processing has completed. Please be patient and check the Settlement Website for updates.

For more information, please visit www.VenerusCarRentalInsurance.com.

    Thank you,

I suspect the response I got was the standard email sent out thousands of times.

However as I understand it, the settlement is agreed - bar any unexpected developments - and they are now collating the claims. Knowing something of USA civil proceedings, I suspect we have a long wait. I am still owed a tax refund of couple of hundred dollars - I gave up after a few years. I got a money order for $0.02 (two cents) for a phone rebate sent to UK, After a couple of years I got a letter reminding me that I hadn't cashed it and it was now invalid, but I could apply for a new money order.

The firms handling claims etc  have little incentive to sort out matters quickly, the longer it takes - the higher their expenses.
