Venerus v Avis - Is This a Scam?

I received the same letter in the post today, whilst I did book vehicles in Florida during the relevant time scale, I am a little sceptical about the veracity of the letter however I'm a bit more content that it is genuine. Having read a couple of the documents on the web site I reviewed vehicle bookings I made through US Rent a Car (UK web site) who the original claimer (Heather Venerus) had booked through - I recalled at the time that I used them given that what was being provided was all the cover required for driving in Florida.

I too have the letter and had a hire car in Florida at the time.
As has been said the case appears genuine. I'll be submitting a claim once the claim is finalised.
Just one thing to watch for if you select the cheque option. I checked with Nationwide if they would accept a USD cheque and they won't. They advised only actual banks, but not building societies, can deal with foreign currency cheques.1 -
A lot of debate whether it's fake or genuine, should I accept or not.But it's very simple. If you think it's fake then dont claim. If you know it's genuine but still dont want to claim then dont.Me: I know it's genuine. No details I supply can damage me even if it is fake (which it isnt!). I have paid for something that was not supplied. Therefore, I have claimed. If you follow the same logic then you do not need to post your concerns such as knowing your address from x years ago etc. That's easily available on electoral roles, 192.com, experian etc. Why would they go through the trouble of looking you up? Because they get a cut of funds paid out.So as above: claim or dont claim. Simples!1

I heard back from the Administrator today with help for me to access this claim. To also confirm what others have said, they know more about my Florida trips than I recall. They don’t ask for anything not in the public domain. My claim is in.1

I have googled Venerus v Avis and in the information I have read a named lawyer, Christopher J Lynch and the law firm Ed Normand are both genuine and are in Florida and specialise in class actions!
Make of that what you will, but I feel that if I don't have to enter any bank transfer details then I don't see that there is a lot at risk .......at the moment! So I may go ahead, I'll get back to you all.0 -
Update on my earlier post.
I have submitted my claim. I may only be entitled to 100 dollars but it's 100 dollars I didn't have.
I have used an email address that I have set up and never use with any personal information, you could open a brand new email address if you can be bothered.
And I have asked for a personal check ( it's the American way of spelling cheque) to be posted to me. So no bank details, no personal information submitted, to me the worst that can happen is my check doesn't turn up!2 -
Just Google for the following "Case No. 6:13-cv-921-CEM-DAB florida middle court"
You'll find the Court Order on the Florida Middle Court Website (All .gov websites are US Government owned and controlled)
Think I will be claiming1 -
I have not received a letter after moving house a few times, is there a contact email I can enquire to as I have defintely rented several cars in this period0

But make sure you have done some research and are comfortable with the legitamacy first !!!!
.... I only claimed because they already had all of the details of my claim under the personal reference I was sent, and I found the Court order on a US government website (Florida Middle Court).0 -
So this went quiet - guess folk either claimed or shredded the letter.0
