    Correct, Ovo is doing you a favour by charging 180KWh at a lower rate than the new supplier.
    Unfortunately i do believe in fairness & doing the right thing is far more important than a few quid.

    Ovo is doing the right thing as it has no role in the switching/transfer processes. It issues a Final Bill based on a data flow sent to both suppliers to open and close your accounts. The obvious question is: ‘why don’t they trust me to provide them with accurate readings’?

    The answer is simply that some consumers provide inflated index readings when switching to a more expensive tariff;
    I agree but what i find baffling is that on the 6th they had actual smart meter reads on the daily bill tally of (combined e7)  563kwh but still managed a closing reading of 674kwh combined on the 7th, i guess it's as bristolleedsfan says they struggle with low users.

    Ovo cannot use your smart meter reading to raise a final bill. The reading has to come from the new supplier’s data collector.

    The new supplier cannot access your smart meter until the transfer process is complete and the account has been set up. Access also requires the new supplier to send out bespoke security certificates to each of the meters. Once the process is complete, then the new supplier can ‘pull’ data from your meter for billing.

    Once we have universal smart meter rollout, then the transfer system will change. Until then, we are stuck with the present system. If you are unhappy then contact your new supplier with a meter reading taken on the day of the transfer. Suppliers are permitted to chat about revising the opening/closing readings. This graphic explains the transfer process:

    Scottish Power, when I switched, did not use the same meter reading as the new supplier and it took months and threats to get them to change it. What suppliers are supposed to do and what they actually do are not the same thing.

    Thanks @[Deleted User] ,
    Surprising to me as i've not switched in over 25yrs how they can make what seems like it should be a simple process so inaccurate for some ,though i can understand that if all the suppliers are happy with it & it works ok for the average customer it's as good as we get for the time being.
    Thanks again for taking the time to explain.
