Having had a few problems with OVO overestimating future usage by some considerable margin i'd had enough & decided to switch.
Moved supplier & on the day before the move OVO  had actual smart meter read  of 564kwh ( combination of Day & night e7 for ease ), the next day no reading was sent to OVO as i was with new suppliers so OVO estimated  a further 4kWh giving an estimate of 568kWh & this has stayed as a last reading on the account since then , which would be acceptable as very low users we're on around 3kWh/ day & the average for the last 3 months.
It's now 10 days later & OVO send a closing statement with final reading of 674kWh, a usage of 110kWh for 1 day even though they have all the readings up until the day before they stopped supplying & 3 months past data as reference.
A truly awful company  in my experience.

No, it's not fraud.  They don't get to keep any over payment.

You should have send the opening reading (either by smart meter or manually) to the new supplier.

This meter read will go through an industry check so old and new supplier will agree on a meter read. Unfortunately there is a big leeway for the agreed reading and reality, The accepted difference is 250KWh for electricity and 1200KWh for gas.

The Energy Supplier contacted by the Consumer should consider the specific circumstances as
    detailed below:
    (a) Where the difference between the Energy Supplier’s view of consumption and that
derived from the initial Switch Meter Reading is 1,200 kWh or less for a gas RMP or 250
kWh (250 units) or less for an electricity RMP, then the Energy Supplier shall not dispute
the Switch Meter Reading unless the Consumer specifically requests a new Switch Meter
Reading, but should instead attempt to resolve the dispute with an accommodation e.g.
cash allowance to the Consumer, thus retaining the initial proposed Switch Meter
Reading. No further action is then required.
The important part is that final and opening reads are the same.

As long as both your new and your old supplier have the exact same readings, then it doesn't really matter. You might pay £30 more to your old supplier, and then £30 less to to the new one.

Hope it all gets resolved soon. Good luck.

So I DO need to send readings to old & new supplier then as OVO seem unable to get near the true figure even though you said "You don't give meter readings to the old supplier, only to the new."

You only need to provide readings to the new supplier. They will then sort the rest.

I will actually pay my new supplier more for the same electric but my dislike of OVO's practices is a deciding factor.

You only give meter readings to the new supplier. They will agree through a third party what readings should be used with the old supplier. This readings need to be identical.

So you will lose nothing. Would be different if the unit rates differ between the suppliers.

Maybe I'm misreading this, but if you are saying that your new supplier is charging you higher rates than you were paying to OVO previously then it actually works in your favour if the estimated readings at the point of switching are higher than the actuals.

Hope you get it all sorted soon.

Yes they do & the new supplier is more expensive  but don't want OVO to benefit.
