Have you looked in Poundland? *Think* they had some but I haven't been there for a couple of weeks.0 -
I am going to have a go at making chocolates as I picked up the dairy milk 120g bars in Tesco for 34p each, can't go wrong at that price!
Does anyone have any ideas for things I could add, flavours I could add etc? Plain choc seems a little boring.Comping wishlist for 2017

Have made a couple with my 9 year old, one with smarties and maltesers and another with fruit and nuts and some chocolate covered biscuit balls. We made them in a silicon loaf tin and I wanted some cellophane bags to put them in. Found some bags in hobby craft that are made for putting home made cards in. They fit the loaf tin slabs perfectly and have a pull off sticky strip that can then be folded over to seal. A bit of ribbon round and the look really good and were so easy. My dd loved swirling some white chocolate through the milk and dropping all the bits on top.
The bags were 3.49 for 100, which is way too many but I'm sure they will get used for something. they could be used for the smaller chocs as well.0 -
I am doing peppermint bark for my friends...its milk choc, layered with white and candy canes crushed on top.
Im usign dark choc rather than white as i found out most my friends dont like white.Need a new start..wheres good to live in the UK?!0 -
Had my first go at making chocolate slabs yesterday. The one turned out perfectly and was made from all dark chocolate (Lindt 80% cocoa).
The second was made with some of the same dark chocolate, but also milk chocolate and white chocolate. This looked awesome when done and was put in fridge overnight along with the first one I made.
When I took them out of the fridge this morning, the one made of all dark chocolate looked as good as it did last night, however, the other one has "bloomed". It has gone all dull and chalky looking (even the dark chocolate part).
Any ideas where I went wrong? I can't quite work out why the dark chocolate is ok on the one, but chalky on the second one.
BTW even though it looks chalky, it still tastes good0 -
I would guess its the tempering thing talked about above?
Ive tried to work out how far in advance is ok - was going to make pimped after eight/toblerone etc - but not sure how long it would all keep for?
This is a fab thread - and LOVE the pimp that snack site!

Spoke to someone today who is a good cook.
She suggested the difference was that I used a solid mold for the dark chocolate one, but I used just a mocked up mold made from foil for the second one.
I probably had some air pockets in the base of the mocked up mold which trapped moisture in the chocolate creating the bloom.
I will just have to have another go0 -
Time to reboost this thread up, for the newbies that haven't seen it and old hands that are giving them a go.
Have you got a few days spare that you will need to read it? :rotfl:
