Trouble quoting
Comments

Yes it's really annoying. I've just had it happen again. Quoted someone, clicked outside the box, started to type, made a mistake, hit delete, cursor then ends up inside the quote box & that's it, stuck, can't get out.
Only solution then is to highlight the entire quote, delete which seems to delete the text but not the box. Hit delete again, re-quote the person & start a fresh.
Poor design. This Vanilla could learn a thing or two from just about any other forum provider.
But it is what it is. Now I know I just have to keep deleting everything & starting again, I know how to sort it.0 -

Note: do not delete all of the new text you've added else you'll go back to the same problem - leave at least 1 character, type whatever it is you want to post, then delete that spurious character.
Re. emojis ... I sometimes get that. Not always, but sometimes.Jenni x4 -
Several years ago (before the last couple of updates) I used to be able to click on quote buttons from different pages and whatever quotes I'd clicked on from different pages in a thread, they'd all appear in the text box. However, since the last couple of updates, I'm unable to do this. If I'm on (for example) page 1 of a thread, and click on a quote, then if I go to page 2 of the same thread, the quote I'd clicked on from page 1 has disappeared. I know there must be a way round this as I see others manage to do this. How do I do this, please? I use a PC not phone or iPad.

The long way is to open each page in separate browser tabs, click the Quote button as desired, then in the tab that you want to actually use to post the reply just copy/paste the quotes from the other tabs and then add in your responses.
If someone has a more-elegant solution then I'm all-ears.Jenni x1 -
I saw it mentioned in the thread of the new text editor - which in itself appears to be ok - but wondered how many people are now seeing a link in quoted posts rather than the quote itself? It makes reading replies frustrating, as you have to click the link to see what someone is referring to. You also can't edit a quote to focus in on the bit you want to talk about. Is this a temporary glitch - or will we stuck with this for a while?

Also just seeing links rather than quotes
In addition its not possible to either 1) edit/trim what you are quoting so you can be clear which part of a long post you are responding to and 2) cannot enter any form of HTML mode which has always been the easiest way to edit posts on here.

Yes it is annoying. I'm getting mainly the links and then occasionally for not obvious reason it turns into a quote that I can actually see without clicking on it. Mainly though it's just the link.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
You can't read the forum properly now as you used to be able to scroll through and see the posts and replies - now you see links and a drop down box so hard to folow what's going on
Maybe we could have an option in our profile to set - show full quoted text ie no drop down box

Agree. This doesn't seem much of an "improvement".

I agree it's a step backwards
