ircE said:My go to sites for selling are Shpock, Gumtree, Preloved and Nextdoor. Variable success with each of them, with the exception of Preloved...Same here. Preloved seems to attract no interest. I have sold one item each and on Shpock and Vinted and have had a few offers that were too low on Shpock. However, absolutely nothing from Preloved despite enabling ther payment system.Their membership system seems dubious in that you have to be paid up to view items that are less than 12 days old. It would make more sense to allow everyone to buy items and then make commission off the online sales. Maybe the fact they are trying to make money from memberships is an admission that the website isn't successful enough for them to get revenue in other ways. Ebid comes to mind with its lifetime memberships for sellers.

I have had enough of Ebay and I can't say you have made any of the other online sales avenues sound very attractive, so has anyone thought of Cext? I used them many years ago, once you just go to show them the goods, and they make an offer you either accept or decline and cart it all home again. As far as I am aware, they still do that?

I should add I have used the music magpie and we buy books apps a few times, both of them are great, really easy to use no problems at all except the packages being picked up on the same day and the first delivery man trying to take them all! I did try to use zifit, but when I went to checkout they lowered the offer prices, so I have not used them. Better not to buy lots of books in the first place but....

Forgot, another thought I had because I don't do social media and I have specialist items is to put a card on the relevant club notice boards. So kayak= boat club, climbing gear=climbing wall etc. I have not tried it yet, but it might work out better than Ebay given I have a lot of large items that can only be picked up, possibly more target market?

I have found some issues with Vinted that may annoy some people. Of the last 7 sales I have one ‘lost’ which Vinted say they will reimburse me for at the end of September (funds on the original sale wouldn’t be released until buyer gets the item) and one where buyer isn’t collecting and is likely to just get sent back to me at some point. That’s pretty poor statistics for successful sales and I’m just thankful none of my items are expensive.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Just to add to this thread. In the last couple of months I have tried Vinted, Shpock, Amazon, Freeads.co.uk, and Preloved. I would say the last two have been the worst. I have never had a single enquiry, and instead of trying to monetize transactions both sites seem to try and make revenue by charging people to view ads, or by trying to sell ads that they claim will get more views. Vinted is good although it is mainly for clothing. It generates quite a few offers and questions about items.Amazon has its drawbacks including giving potential customers incorrect shipping dates. This means the only sale I had was cancelled by the buyer as Amazon was giving estimated shipping dates of around 10 or 12 days. Why they do this I don't know. Some sellers in the Amazon forum say it is to favour bigger sellers. As I mentoned in another thread Amazon don't allow some brands to be sold without a letter of persmission from the manufacturer. This is a major downside to Amazon. With Shpock I have only two sales and these are cheaper electronic items in the £20 - £30 price range. The site has a lot of scammers. I have been asked to ship one item I sold to a different address immediately after payment and refused.Anyway, my conclusion is that none of these platforms compare to ebay with the exception of Vinted if you are selling quality clothing items that have brand names and are made from good quality fabrics. However, all of these sites get less enquiries and more timewasters and scammers than I ever had on ebay.
