British Gas explanation of how the EBSS scheme will work

If you paid £234 last winter it can be £500 to £600 this winter. Or are you still on an excellent fixed tariff?
21p electricity last winter on SVT, over 60p from January.0 -
Same here, two separate accounts with BG.PennineAcute said:Alnat1 said:The majority of people have a dual fuel account so if they did use less than £66/£67 a month on electricity the amount should help towards lowering the total account balance (both gas and electricity)
I haven't been with any company yet that bills separately for each fuel (maybe some do?), one DD covers both. I don't see anything on my bill that shows credit "pots" for each fuel, the amounts paid by DD are added to one total. I would assume the £400 would pay towards your gas use if electricity was lower over the 6 months.
I am dual with BG. Have two bills and two seperate DDs.
How is the Energy Bill Support Scheme going to work with two separate accounts?0 -
Mine stayed the same, Agile's lower SC offset the higher unit rate for me, higher gas prices, but my DD was above my bill amount. Its even still too high now, I let it be as Octopus would just argue I will use it in winter, bless them thinking everyone uses more..Ultrasonic said:For all those who have signed up to fixed tariffs recently they will already be paying higher DDs of course, although not quite as high as the October SVT will likely indicate.

If they really take the full debit order and pay back the money into your bank account it does not matter at all. You could have 5 accounts, and the money would be back with you.jazzy said:

If you pay less than the £66/£67 all that has been discussed would apply. You will only get back what you pay as electricity direct debit.

Has anyone received their first dd payment from this scheme yet, My dd goes out on 1st of month, obs first one was a weekend so BG received payment on Monday 3rd.How long does it take them to sent 1st payment back to you I am impatient I know.0

not a chance. Normal DD taken on the 3rd, nothing back. My bill review was supposed to be on the site on the 4th. . . .still says "sorry, there's an issue. . .". They're not exactly filling me with confidence that they know what they're doing.mrsmac59 said:Has anyone received their first dd payment from this scheme yet, My dd goes out on 1st of month, obs first one was a weekend so BG received payment on Monday 3rd.How long does it take them to sent 1st payment back to you I am impatient I know.0 -

Some people will want some of the money to pay for gas, oil, coal or wood.Others will want to maximise their Santander cashback. So for them the exact method will matter.
In my scenarios, customer 1 and 2 could use the money to buy alternative energy/fuel.
Customers 1 and 3 still benefit from full Santander cashback!
I'd prefer to be customer 3, if I had any choice 😉
As a "customer 2" (Eon), we've just spent our "saving" in Homebase!! 😉How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)0 -
I pay by whole bill direct debit, which isn't mentioned in BG's page on "How you'll get the government discount". In particular, they never produce the promised monthly bill; in reality it's a bill every 6-8 weeks, so if I only received a £67 credit when they took the DD payment, I would miss some of them. They took my most recent DD payment today, but when I checked my BG account, I can see they've applied a credit on Wednesday. So they are applying the credit to my BG account as with other payment methods, rather than to my bank account, as for monthly DD.0
