Lucky you! why don't you make cherry jam or stew some and freeze for pie fillings.
I suggest you get a cherry stoner if you haven't got one already if you decide on either of theseThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
What about preserving them in alcohol of some sort. A quick search came up with recipes for cherries in Brandy, Vodka, Kirsch etc. You could even put some away for Christmas gifts if they come out well enough.0

I have sat and pitted for about an hour now and got 2 takeawy tubs full and still got aload left. I read to use a bent out paper clip and that has been working well apart from my hands now looking like I have commited murder!!!
The brandy looks quite nice to do I may give that ago.
And I only picked the dark cherries there is still alot of the red cherries out there that after reading on here looks to be the tarte cherry that is also used in some reciepes.........
Off to bleach my hands now.... any more suggetions I would be grateful0 -
I am surprised - around here cherry season is long over! Anyway, do get as many as you can and stone and freeze them. I tend to use them up mostly over the winter as clafoutis (they can be thrown in the tin frozen as they are, cover with the batter and straight into the oven), or the other dessert I love is to put them (again straight from frozen) in a saucepan, add a little water, some sugar and some lemon juice, then simmer until soft and bind the liquid with corn starch. This can be eaten warm, at room temperature or cold. Nice cold served in wine glasses with whipped cream on top. You can also add some slivers of almonds to the cherries before serving."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0

Hi all, me again, this may be a very silly question, however I was going through the fridge and I'm turning over a new leaf and trying to stop throwing things away that may be perfectly useable just a bit wrinkly...
So, I have half a box of sainsbo cherries (bb date is 16th August:eek:) that look ok, just a bit wrinkly, no mould or anything as far as I can see. My question is, is it worth doing anything with them (and any ideas) or should I just give it up as a bad job and bin them?
Any opinions gratefully received!
Caroline**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

Put them in a bottle of Brandy with some sugar and make Cherry brandy0

I'd just eat 'em -but then I am very fond of cherries! You probably don't have enough for it to be worth cooking them on their own, but if you've got any other fruit left over you could cook them up into a fruit compote-type thing and serve with yoghurt or ice cream.Back after a very long break!0

I made a cherry klafoutis once with about that many. I just googled for a recipe which matched what I had and cooked it. Very nice.
