I would, but they look like they'd be yurky unless they were cooked with a lot of sugar! I like the clafoutis idea, I might give that a try. Don't suppose you have a tried and tested recipe kafkathecat?
**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

was so exited to find several wild cherries yesterday close to home.
I went online to confirm identity and hubby tried one taste like shop brought cherries and look like them too.
Went back today picked huge icecream tubs worth.
goiung back 2-3more times as left teh still red ones but then noticed tonnes more.:j
Hubbys not usually exited by foraging but he adores cherries and they so pricey to buy.
Its first time he climbed a tree since age 8 im sure he had fun.
He reckon retail price of what we picked probably 15quids worth.
So question is what to do withe them apart from hubbys lunchbox.
Im going to wash , destalk them
can i freeze them ok, do they need destoneing before cooking.
things I can think of and whats been suggested in foraging thread now merged and lost:ois
cherry brandy:beer:
cherry jam
guess I could make chery pie/tart.
Any other ideas gratefully received as think will be bumper harvest this year even my dads exited and wants some.
want to make stuff for us
Also potentially tasty xmas gifts for family.:Tpad by xmas2010 £14,636.65/£20,000::beer:

Hi gailey,
Well done on your find!I would go for jam, or pies and crumbles which could be frozen. They will freeze well but as they are but are best stoned before freezing as they will go a bit mushy once frozen so it's a messy business destoning them once defrosted.
This thread has lots of ideas that may help:
Fresh cherries - how to use?
And you can still find the foraging thread here:
Foraging - Natures Food
I'll add this thread to the first link later to keep the ideas together.

Thanks im super exited as know we can pick tonnes will get lots for dad as hes fixing my laptop and lent me his bless him.
Just a guess based on today and several other cherry trees we saw i reckon we can fill10-15 1lit icecream tubs thats lots of cherries and good exercise for hubby.
I love crumbles so might try that idea.
will keep some fresh for hubby/daughter to eat.
I prefer cherries cooked myself.
will definatly have to freeze some as overwhelmed at potential quantity im sure by end of month we be sick of cherries and moved onto blackberries.
sister wants to go up mountain winberry picking.
im debating gooseberries
also dads trying to see if wild rasberries ready but its hours drive for me so not cheap as use petrol to get there.pad by xmas2010 £14,636.65/£20,000::beer:

cook (stew?) a handful before you start major batch cooking - not all cherries will cook well.
With farmed cherries the type you cook with (eg Morellos) are barely edible raw. You hardly ever see them for sale.
Similarly, not all eating varieties cook well, and you have to be very careful about the amount of sugar that you add even if they do.
I'm sure that there's plenty that you can do with the cherries either way - even if they won't cook then you could use them for smoothies etc.
As with all foraging - try to leave a few (at the top of the tree?) for the birds and for the propagation of future trees0 -
Thanks for advice will do. have left so,e as no way we can reach top of trees as lots there.
Hubbys munching already says they nice raw I prefer them cooked.
Think nicest thing about find is donating to dad and making xmas presents so share the cherry love.pad by xmas2010 £14,636.65/£20,000::beer:

clafoutis is my fav cherry dessert - stoned (the cherries, not me) then baked in a sweet rich batter. MmmmmmPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.
