Vile smell from next door

HI
When you said vile smell I thought drains, something died etc. I don't like the smell of cigarette smoke, but joints I find are OK. How about sealing up your vent? How close is he?0 -
Just be perfectly honest. Tell him you dont mind him smoking a bit of weed but that the smoke is bothering you and would he mind smoking it a bit to the other way....
I smoke cigarettes and sometimes go outside to avoid stinking out the flat. One day a neighbour completely ambushed me, screamed that the smoke was coming into his flat. I actually think he would have physically assaulted me if I wasnt twice his size.
Now the guy had probably been suffering in silence for months, secretly hating me everytime I went out for an oily rag.... but all he had to do was to say " Er...'scuse mate, but would you mind smoking that way about, its stinking out me flat" and I would have been dreadfully embarrased and apologised profusely.....Honestly, dont suffer in silence and get all wound up. Just behave like a grown up and have a nice chat. Ask him round for a cuppa or summink also...Mortgage debt - [STRIKE]£8,811.47 [/STRIKE] Paid off!0 -
Errr sorry, you will find that smoking illegal drugs remains illegal wherever you smoke them.
Cannabis is still a Class C drug.
I would report him to your local police and ask them to have a quiet word...
Yes, cannabis is still illegal, but I would just have a quiet word before escalting matters like that and souring relations with your neighbour for ever.
Of course, if he reacts badly to a polite request then thats what we have police for.Mortgage debt - [STRIKE]£8,811.47 [/STRIKE] Paid off!0 -
Surely he can enjoy a spliff in his own house & garden?
Yes......he can, i'm not saying he should stop just maybe do it a little bit away from my house and garden so I can enjoy my own house and garden:rolleyes:My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to sayIgnore......check!0 -
This bit in particular made me giggle. Do you know there's something that you can smoke that will help you with that? LOL

As much as the smell is getting to me, I don't think involving the police is the right way to go......it's hardly crime of the century!
I must point out......I have no issue with whatever people choose to do or smoke on their property BUT when it starts to affect my enjoyment of my own property it becomes an issue.
The guy isn't the friendliest of people so I'm not sure what his reaction would be if I just casually mentioned I could smell it, he has a wife and three kids in the house so presumably that's the reason he doesn't smoke it in the house.
To the people that suggested I tape up the vent, probably not the best idea as that is where the boiler is!
How anyone can say they "like" the smell of weed is beyond me.......it's such a strong smell. My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. Without wanting to sound like an "expert" he could actually be growing the herb. If you are smelling it in the evening and morning he could be venting a grow room.
Smoke is a strong smell but if you say it is a really permeating strong smell thats been getting stronger that would be my bet.
Like I said though, I'm no expert.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
What is his wife like? You could maybe act innocent and mention that you've noticed a strange smell lingering around, and has she noticed the same thing? If you were lucky, she might be embarassed enough to tell him to stop.0

Just have a word with him. I think that's the best way. He's probably totally unaware that he's creating a problem.Happy chappy0

The Police are under instructions (from the home secretary) to ignore/tolerate personal use within the confines of ones own home. They are interested in dealers, not recreational users. It's common practice now for people found with small amounts in public to not even be cautioned.
And no, I don't or never have used the stuff, but I have two friends who are policemen, so the information is accurate.0
