I am constantly being overcharged!

Asda, Lidl, Aldi, no matter who!
I am constantly being overcharged. Today Bacon at a self service
Its cost me £10 to date!
Self service isnt supposed to be able to do that but it has! So what's going on with Technology. To me it seems poinless using it as its worse than human error!

Bit more information needed to help - unless it's just a rant in which case it's in the wrong board

What exactly was the issue with your bacon ?

A self serve till scans exactly the same info as any other till so not sure why you think they're more of an issue ?

I have learnt to ask for a receipt, whether self service or via a staffed til.  Check it either before you leave the store or in your car before you leave the carpark.  If overcharged take the item and the receipt to customer services or staff member.  Thereceipt gives the amount charged, the item detail charged, the date and time, so they can see you have only just bought the item.

Sometimes it is because the shelf label is wrong, or because it has been misplaced above/below so you think the item you are putting in your trolley is cheaper than it actually is.

Yes, its a faff but it is really up to you whether you think it is worth the faff.

I tend to think that Self Service tills can make it practically and psychologically more difficult to deal with over-charging.  You've effectively overcharged yourself, and worse, you probably weren't paying attention to the prices on-screen when it happened. I've also been told by staff in Lidl that overcharging cannot be dealt with by the Self Service assistant, and have to go to a staffed till.

There are a lot of price rises around at the moment, and whilst many of them are quite small, they soon mount up if they result in over-charging.   I'm not sure why the OP thinks that Self Service tills shouldn't overcharge because they access the same price data from the same source as staffed tills.   They are just as likely to over-charge when the over-charging results from a mismatch between pricing data and the price displayed on shelf-edge labels.

Is there a general issue with shelf edge labels not matching what the till says?  Causing a bit of upset in itself I think.
As I suspected, somebody has been adding soil to my garden. The plot thickens...

'Because they usually say there is an unknown item in the bagging atea. This one didn't!

That feature checks the weight of the item just placed on the scales against its expected weight based on the barcode.    If your bacon was somehow mis-scanned as a more expensive item of a similar weight then it wouldn't have detected that.

I check my till receipts before I leave the shop, I've been overcharged so many times. On a few occasions I've forgotten or been in a rush and not done it. And on some of theses occasions I find an overcharge when I get home. It's infuriating but you must check your receipt before you leave.

Maybe we need the MSE guide to using self service tills...

    - Do use your own bags/boxes if you wish - add them to the scales using the "Use my own Bag" facility.  This resets the scales to accommodate the additional weight.

    - Scan each item one at a time, and check that the description and price that appears on-screen  are correct.

    - Add each item to the scales area after scanning it.

    - Get staff to correct any "Incorrect item in the bagging area" problems.  Make sure that any correction they apply is right.

    - Make sure to scan your loyalty card/app at the appropriate time.   Some stores allow the loyalty scanning at any time, and others (Lidl) ask for it at the end of the transaction.

    - Always obtain your receipt either on paper or in the app.   Check it before leaving the site.
