I know this is controversial but I have stopped checking my receipts. If a shop asks me if I would like one I say no thankyou.
In the past If I noticed I had been overcharged, it really bothered me, like I had been robbed. Thinking about it, there have been times where I have been on the receiving end of a good deal, so concluded it probably balanced out.

I'm now of the opinion that what I dont know wont hurt me and I now dont spend my time moaning and groaning and seething about what really boils down to a mistake.

As I said I know this is controversial but I just find that if I was overcharged I just kept thinking about how cross it made me feel. I do though think I would know if there was a big error, it should hopefully be obvious.
Please keep your receipt if you get falsely accused of stealing you will need it believe me it does happen,I don’t get this recent thing for do you want your receipt ?
I have not once in my entire life been accused of stealing, neither has anyone I know. So I suspect you are trying to mitigate something with improbably low odds of occurring.

Also if this happened all you would have to say is you do not have the receipt and the store could access their digital records and see you had paid.

Not had a problem with overcharging at Lidl or Aldi, I take it in the retailers mentioned you are checking the correct shelf edge label.

In my experience, Lidl can be very tardy in replacing SELs when prices change.  That was certainly the case a few months ago when the price of their UHT skimmed milk had a price increase from 50p to something like 59p (and now is about 68p).  The label remained with the 50p price for weeks.

from years of experience of overcharges, always check the receipt before leaving the store or car park.
if its self service you need to check it as you scan.

Asda was always my favourite as the customer services always liked to argue that you were not actaully overcharged (they are god and their shelf labels cannot be wrong, even when the barcodes matched the label!) and you dreamt it all and youd get no apology.... but oddly after 20minutes of them messing about (calling for a manager), and making you feel like you were making it all up... they would give you a £2 gift card and write it in their black book (?). it was amzing how well they could turn their mistake, into YOUR mistake. felt like i was back at school! it was really bizarre customer services....it was like they thought you were trying it on!
i/we actually stopped shopping their frequently after this incident and i use to spend quite a bit of money there. also i complained and heard nothing! I hope this is not how they currently deal with this!
of course tesco would give you double the difference! usually after some tooing and frowing

my absolute favourite was Home bargains, in the 2 minutes between picking the item off the shelf and going to the checkout, a member of staff had just changed the label and the price had gone up a few quid!!
had i not seen them running around with labels i would of thought id made a mistake....

yesterday I bought a load of cheap seeds in Tesco & used the self service till- never again.
Yes, as it happened, I hadn't been overcharged but for each packet there was the full amount, less the original discount, less the final discount- so many minuses! you couldn't see the wood for the trees! half the receipt taken up with superfluous print.
The lass on Customer services told me that if I had used a 'normal' till the items would have simply gone through @ 20 pence or whatever. She said those machines have a mind of their own! true.
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
