Physically don't have the money

Yes, I understand that. So, it will be at least £400 for gas and at least £400 for electricity.
But, my question is, what if I don't physically have the money to pay the direct debit?
What will happen? I do not have the money to pay.....what can they do.
I will always use as little as possible and will use extra clothes and blankets but my question is what happens if I cannot pay the new direct debit amount.
I understand the price is going up but I don't have the money to pay it....I just don't genuinely have it1 -
Sorry, but it's only one lot of £400 off your electricity account, not gas in addition. ☹️How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0

I know it’s only 1 x £400. I meant my gas payment will be £400 a month as will my electricity2

I think those readings were high as I was paying off a debt which is now paid in full0

People here can help you look at your overall expenditure and where to cut back if possible, rather than just your utility bills in isolation. If you want them to.
ETA - just seen you’re already on a DMP. Ignore me.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

Eon wanted to up my DD to £167 from the £53 per month I had been paying.
After the recent rise in bills, my usage works out at about £80 per month average (electricity) so I told them NO, your not doing that, I will increase the payment to £100 and no more.
I point blank refused to let them, so they agreed, no if`s no but`s, they cannot make you pay more than you can afford.
They want you to build up a credit balance, they say it helps you budget, I say they are taking my money unnecessarily, if my payment covers my usage, then for now, I`m happy with that.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. They cannot make you pay more than you can afford. That’s the answer I’m looking for. I know I won’t use £400 worth, I’ll be sensible and I’d rather freeze quite frankly0
