Just realised I can gradually top up my II trading account with £1.01 increments. Seems like a pretty simple way to get my balance up quickly with double round ups, although doubt I have the patience to do 100 a day so will let others claim the prize for being first to £5000!
I'd be judicious. Someone in another thread reported doing similar with their stockbroker - IIRC AJ Bell - and it closed his account because of it.
Someone else reported Skipton Building Society getting the hump too - although sending a warning letter rather than closing the account
Hmm, well I could be topping up my II ISA £5.01 at a time and that's perfectly legitimate... but noted, will be judicious. Not like I'm in this particular race to win...

Sorry, the stockbroker closed the account, or Natwest?

Point noted, thanks, although II are going to have a lot of my money invested with them (SIPP/ISA) so if they do get jumpy over a handful of £1.01 deposits then that would make me reevaluate wanting to be with them anyway...
    The stockbroker.

I use a debit card to make additional card payments of 2p to my water bill. I'd be more than happy if they close my water account down so I no longer have to pay it.
  • Do the credit parties to all these penny transactions not get charged transaction fees per credit by the card processors?

Can't imagine it's too much of a worry to NS&I but a smaller building society?

I wonder what the threshold is and why they don't just block them.

If I remember correctly the poster who received a narky letter from Skipton was making 17 or 18 deposits a month by debit card.

Does anyone know what savings accounts you can use to make small deposits by debit card.

I thought I had found a new way to create roundups without using a non bank fintech app: using your own Starling Settleup or Monzo.me link to pay by card. The transaction failed but it didn't say why so it may still be possible.
