What I am interested in is the YouGov way of making extra money. @Bridlington1 would you be able to explain how long it takes for them to pay out? Are you not concerned that a lot of personal data is shared? Not sure if I want to link all my accounts, credit cards and saving accounts and maybe only go with dummy accounts.

    For details see:
    https://yougov.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/sections/4413107645841-YouGov-Finance

On the link it says that access to YouGov Finance is by invitation only, is that still the case?
Thanks to Bridlington1 for the tip, I signed up to  You Gov today, then googled  You Gov finance and signed in via  You Gov,

    You've added 39 accounts!

Whilst we're on YouGov finance, regular savers, with the exception of TSB for some reason (TVM @bristolleedsfan), can't be linked up but you can link:
    • Club Lloyds saver (can open up to 5 of these)
    • Club Lloyds advantage saver (can open up to 5 of these)
    • Lloyds easy saver (can open up to 5 of these)
    • Halifax everyday saver (can open up to 5 of these)
    • Halifax reward bonus saver (can open up to 5 of these)
    • Bank of Scotland advantage saver (can open up to 5 of these)
    • Bank of Scotland access saver (can open up to 5 of these)
    • TSB savings pot (can open up to 5 of these per spend & save account)
    • TSB easy saver (no stated limit to the number of these that can be linked)
    • TSB Save Well Limited Access Account
    • TSB eSavings
    • HSBC Bonus saver
    • HSBC flexible saver
    • etc
    • etc
You can easily get £200/year out of the above if you really wanted to.

I wonder how long we can all get away with this for.

I use Paypal App and Friends and Family and send 99 x 1p to my partner to round up. Only annoyance is that Paypal takes time to actually clear the direct debit. The idea with a second current account is interesting and once we have confirmation it works I am on that.
You can do about 100 debit card payments per day on a Natwest/RBS debit card. If you have double round ups and all transactions are amounts ending in £0.01, you can round up a maximum of £198 per day into each regular saver. Assuming you had £1k in it now, put another £150 in today and another £150 on 1st January, you could fill both Natwest and RBS in 19 days, so by 15th January. That's assuming you had a lot of time (and patience) on your hands and had nothing better to do.
I'm fairly on top of little hacks like this but even this is one step too far for me :)
I shall suffer the drip-feed and hope that the limit is increased at some point...i've had it since it started and maxed the £1,000 then skimmed the interest off to a high interest EA account, then as soon as the £5,000 allowance was announced it was back on my agenda for transferring the £150 each month....

It works and is rather easy to do with Paypal. Worked for me the first few days and then they blocked my card. Complained on their chat, people there seemed rather stupid that at the third time me repeating the same stuff over and over again I logged a formal complaint with RBS. They already paid me £150 for another complaint as they not opened the credit card within their 3-5 working days SLA they state in their email so let's see where this complaint will go.
Could I ask how this works please? Do you send 1p from PayPal with the source of funds set as a linked debit card? If so, aren't there paypal minimum fees?

What annoys me is that I'd already accumulated close to £2k in there before the interest rate threshold increase, but decided to move the excess to a better paying account. Otherwise I suspect I'd be one of the frontrunners to hit £5k.

The bigger question is whether anyone will make it before they change the interest rate again...

Paypal don't charge fees for friend and family & you can send as little as 1p.

However Paypal do freeze accounts for up to 180 days if their algorithm detects suspicious activity.

Exactly that, 99 RBS transaction a day is the limit. I usually do 30-40 in one go via app, wait a few hours and do the rest. After more than 50 you get stuck with extra verificatios but not got blocked or anything. I also receive payments from other sources so there is quite some activity so I guess it just looks normal to Paypal.

You link the bebit card to Paypal and make a Friends and Family payment of 0.01 and after a few days the transaction clears and you get your round ups in. Got around 550 transferred this morning from current into fixed saver. I also was lucky and transferred manually from the curret account 150 in on the 2nd Jan and standing order of 150 went out on the 3rd. No return of funds yet and showing all as cleared (same worked for HSBC reg saver as well). Probably just been lucky or they block a payment in Feb.

Thanks to Bridlington1 for the tip, I signed up to  You Gov today, then googled  You Gov finance and signed in via  You Gov,

    You've added 39 accounts!

Added about 3 current account the other day. Now when I try to login to YouGov finance via YouGov I see the message:

    Something went wrong.

Only option is to click 'go back' to take me back to the 'sign in with YouGov' screen. I could do this endlessly in a loop.

edit: contacted YouGov support about 6 hours ago using their webform. Yet to receive a reply.

edit2: be careful with YouGov. I've had to raise another support query because I wasn't receiving the login code via email.

This was the response I received:

     "Hi there,
    Thanks for getting in touch
We ask that all our members take their time with our surveys and pay attention when filling them out, in return we offer points for each survey completed that can then be redeemed for a reward with a cash value. ...

bears no relevance to my support ticket of 'not receiving the code to login'.  Looks like I'm gonna have to kiss good bye to the rewards for the bank accounts that were linked. Luckily I only did three. Just imagine if I had done 30 or 40.

Would've been such a waste of time. I don't suppose there's an independent arbiter (similar to the financial services ombudsman) for settling disputes between YouGov and us.

  • As anyone received their round ups today as mine are missing from both NatWest/RBS?

It does take 1 or 2 working days to process. Did you do them on Friday (or before that)?

Both rbs and NatWest roundups didn't appear on my app yesterday for some reason (I only checked via app. Don't know if it appeared on online banking via desktop) - usually they do appear on a Monday (I think it's the roundups done on Thursday or Friday appear on Monday)

Today, I can see Natwest roundups worth £344.52 (2 days I think as it's over the daily max £196.02. rbs is showing £588.06 (seems three days worth). On App it appears under yesterday.

Btw. I'm sure you're aware, but just mentioning for others - always ensure there is enough money in rewards current account for round-ups to go through. I heard that if there isn't, they simply won't go through. There's no second chances like with Direct debits. With that I receive an sms saying 'bank will try again. ensure enough money for DD to go through by midnight that same day'. something like this anyway. The DD situ has only happened to me once a while ago so don't recall exactly.
