I've just spoken to one of Santander's chat agents and they said that you don't need to set up 2 new DDs. Any DDs getting switched will count.danlightbulb said:
Does this mean you have to set up 2 new direct debits, or can they be ones that are getting switched, or existing ones if you're an existing current account holder?studentsaver_889 said:- Within 60 days of telling us to switch your account, you’ll need to complete the switch, set up 2 active Direct Debits (this cannot include Direct Debits set up to fund a savings account you have with Santander, cahoot or Cater Allen), pay in £1,000 and log on to Online or Mobile Banking.
Any DDs which are on the account at x days after the switch count, regardless if they existed on the account before the switch, were transferred over or were set up immediately after the switch.

Damn, sounds like I missed out!Scrounger said:
IME, the prior Amazon offer will not preclude you from the current bonus offer (regardless of what they tell you on the phone).Olinda99 said:Does anyone have the number of the Santander switching team - I would like to call them and find out if I have ever had a 'switching bonus' in the past
I remember a while back switching accounts to them and getting Amazon vouchers (quite a lot of them) so I expect this does count as a previous bonus but would like to check.

Some people might have a different experience depending on circumstances, financial, identity etc., but I applied for their Everyday Account this morning and selected to switch an existing account to them. The online process was very easy and after submitting the application and about half a minute of a rotating circle, bingo, account opened along with sort code and a/c no.. There were some questions which required educated guesses, e.g. by how much will monthly spend increase. I think everyone will have an increase but without the help of Mystic Meg, very difficult to estimate. In the e-mail confirmation I received they think I am or have been a customer. An attachment was a change of personal information form to complete and send to a Freepost address.Their assumption is wrong, don't have and never had an account.I phoned their account opening "team" and it was confirmed the e-mail was probably sent in error. Phone answered comparitively quickly too. Very helpful person who confirmed the account was open and Debit Card should arrive in about 5 days.Switch should be 12th August.Sorry for the mini novel.1

The number was shared in this post last year, don't know if it's still applicable:Olinda99 said:Does anyone have the number of the Santander switching team - I would like to call them and find out if I have ever had a 'switching bonus' in the past

Have you tried 'Chat' first? Written response and no call waiting?Olinda99 said:Does anyone have the number of the Santander switching team - I would like to call them and find out if I have ever had a 'switching bonus' in the past

On the subject of whether participation in the Amazon offer 'counts', clause 2.2.2 of the offer terms seems clear to me, with no reference to a 'bonus' as such - you're ineligible if you "have previously received or participated in any other incentive for switching to any of our accounts".
Whether or not they actually police that is another story though....1 -
Applied fine but I have to contact them to switch as the donor account doesn't have a card - it did have but I never used it and they didn't send a replacement.

Echoing previous commenters, historically Santander hasn't often checked whether applicants have benefited previously 😉0

For info.. Just applied on-line for a 2nd Everyday account and completed the switching requirements, account opened and ready to use.
Will complete the 2x DD's and initial deposit in due course.1 -

When I log in and click on my Everyday current account, there's a "Product name" below it, which says EVERYDAY CURRENT ACCOUNT SWITCHER. Perhaps the "switcher" makes it more obvious that I've already switched to them earlier?
