I now have an update.  A variable DD based on our readings.  Meanwhile, now we actually have a gas account number I can also request that it is added to the smart meter we already have for electricity usage.  Hopefully, that will be the end of our problems. In response to an above post we were transferred from Bulb to BG without either our knowledge or approval. Octopus would have been the choice but right now we will leave things as they are for a while. It's all too stressful.

BG are the worst company I have ever had to deal with.  Just for your information, if you ever get transferred to a new supplier without your consent, it's called an erroneous transfer.  BG did the same to me.  Complain about it and they will swap you back and pay you £30 for the trouble.

Not sure that would be possible if your supplier was Avro or Bulb

We will stick with BG until we have regularised payments and have some realistic projections of future costs. We will then switch to Octopus.
FYI, we had no idea we were with BG until 6 weeks after we had been 'transferred' and it was from Bulb. No one notified us of anything. With all the confusion it did not seem the time to make additional changes.

I still can't understand how you came to switch from Bulb to BG.
You said you received an email telling you to switch. Do you still have that email? Who was it from and what exactly did it say?

Could be just that just on of your neighbours wanted to switch and gave the wrong address by mistake.

It would have been up to you to contact BG and tell them you never requested the switch.

Not sure whether you will get a bill from BG. Since the forced move we have had 7 bills and 6 have been cancelled.

We were advised by BG that our account had been taken over by Bulb - correct name, correct address.

Yes, we have had a few bills that have been retracted and then sent again. Hopefully, now things will settle a little.

Do you maybe mean it was not taken over "by Bulb", but "from Bulb"?

Bulb went never into administration, so somebody (a neighbour?, somebody who does not like you?) requested a switch for you from Bulb to BG. It would have been up to you to say, sorry we never requested this and all would have been fine.
