Ah right. The two on my account held more detail.

Did you get a reason for the declines in the app or by SMS?
No reason, just says declined in the app when presented at  Sainsburys and declined on the terminal  .Used in Tesco s 15 minutes later at the  petrol pump just would nt accept it at all.
Mystery as this is the first time this has happened . I ll try again tomorrow before digging deeper

A few people have mentioned that petrol pumps declined the card.
I only use credit cards on fuel pumps due to the £100 pre authorisation.
Never used my Chase card, not in almost 5 months.
It set up Google pay when I joined and that was that.
Over 120 payments and never had one declined.

I've never been happy with Chase ever since I opened my account three months ago. I've had all sorts of flaky problems with the app - including delays in crediting the account, having to provide a passport scan (again) for no real reason (just 1 failed attempt to login) and several dealyed (or not available) transfers out. I switched to Chase from Marcus as the interst rate was much better (then). However, as of today both are equal at 1.5%. Dependent on what happens tomorrow re the BoE rates announcement, I may switch entirely back to Marcus (with whom I've never had any problems). Chase's app and continual glitches give me no confidence at all.

Just to update why my card was declined at Tesco s and Sainsburys .Digging deeper into the activity it did say that I have reached my contactless limit and to reset it I have to use the chip and pin
.I was nt aware of contactless limits but the cashier did ask me to use the chip and pin and it still declined so I used another card

I've had exactly the same message before, I used the chip and pin and it was fine after.

Never used the physical card in 4 months, only Google pay. So never had any issues.
Google pay is the way to go.

Maybe Virgin are hoping you give up on the Chase app and open a Virgin Bank account instead. Only half joking...
It'll be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end....
  • There are a number of posts under the Budget and Bank Account section (Chase UK Discussion) on the same subject.

17 reported incidents of outages on the Chase app in July (mainly unplanned) and already 3 in August.

Definitely not for the faint hearted if you are using Chase savings account as a feed to cover day to day payments with another bank provider to maximise interest.

Now that others are matching or outdoing the 1.5% return, it may well be time to move on unless they can quickly restore some credibility in a very flaky offering so far.

If you try to use your Chase card for contactless purchases over £100 does it give you the option to enter the pin number or simply refuse and reject and instantly lock the card?  On other cards over £100 you simply enter your pin and all goes well.

    Thanks.
