Throwing food in the bin

Any ideas as to what I can do with satsumas? I've got about 6 left and no desire to eat the damn things as they are..
Any ideas?
If you have any chocolate left over from Christmas, you could make a chocolate fondue and serve the satsumas with that. It's one of the few ways I can get my son to eat fresh fruit! It's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.0 -

Peel and segment them and put in the freezer for using later in a fruit salad.
Or put some sugar and a little water in a heavy pan and put over a low heat until it turns to dark caramel colour. Don't stir at all until the colour changes. Put the segments into this whilst it is still warm. Refrigerate when cooled.
This caramel is thin and tastes slightly bitter rather than sweet and is usually done with thinly sliced oranges. Fab when you don't want a heavy pudding.0 -
I was at my SIL's house earlier and while we were chatting she was making a lasagne for tea. When she finished and started clearing up she threw half an onion, half a tomato and the last sheet of pasta from the box in the bin! What a waste!
What wasteful things do your family and friends do that really annoy you?0 -
Hi apinnyon,
There's an earlier thread on how wasteful people are so I've added your post to it to keep the replies together.

I work for a sandwich delivery firm and all our food is fresh daily.
When we all get back to the unit(8 drivers) all the leftover food is thrown into black bags and put into the bin.
It is horrible, the only day we can take anything home is friday.
I am considering asking them to look into pigswill or something as there must be another use for it.
we do recycle all the cardboard etc., but food waste is a big issue at the moment.0 -

Homeless shelters sometimes take food. It sounds like they're still fresh and suitable for people to eat.
I used to get annoyed with myself for letting things go out of date, I thought we were really wasteful because we usually have a couple of things a month go bad before we could eat them, then I discovered how much other people throw away . Turns out we've always been doing very well and wasting very little.0 -
I feel stupid about this but I get really upset when I see food thrown away or have to throw it away myself, even if it is inedible.
DF buttered 2 huge rolls and put them on his plate with his bangers and mash the other night - covered in gravy and mash, and then discovered his eyes were bigger than his belly again and I had to throw them both away, it almost made me cry! But I suppose I am hormonal! It just really upset me because they were lovely fresh rolls and I would happily have eaten them the next day for my lunch, but didn't fancy cold gravy/mash leftovers covering them.
He is always doing this and it really upsets me. He doesn't listen either when I warn him he won't be able to finish it. His argument is he pays the food bill but he doesn't understand - it's not about the money.
I don't think I could be a fly on the wall in some peoples' homes, I would be so distraught! I know it's silly but I can't help it!I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0
