If only I'd had some rum.... (I probably would have drunk it)

My OH is scathing when it comes to sell by dates, best before dates are a little different, we use our senses of whether something is ok to eat or not. And why oh why do people throw away yoghurt a day or two past the date...don't they realise it's off already or it wouldn't be yoghurt  :rotfl:
We use leftovers a lot. Yesterday I did turkey legs stuffed and rolled with sausage meat with roasted potatoes and parsnips and sprouts. Today's tea was left over turkey with sprout bubble and squeak and we both thought today's was better than yesterday.
Leftovers rule OK

Idea for leftover bits of cheese.
I've just used up my leftover Stilton, Cheddar and a bit of Boursin in potted cheese.
Grate all your bits of cheese and mash together with butter (a quarter to half the amount of cheese). Add a couple of tbsp of brandy or sherry or milk if you don't want to use alcohol.
This is a very rich spread, but is delicious on crackers, as Welsh rarebit, on top of a baked spud, stirred into hot pasta for an instant sauce.0 -

This is quite interesting... someone has challenged themselves not to go shopping and only eat what's in the cupboard.0 -
Thanks for this link Hosskins. If you don't mind I'll post it on the 'Simplifying' thread as I posted about the exact same thing the other day
I'm planning something similar myself.

Had a quick read and it looks like it could be interesting.
I reckon if it was just me and other half, I could probably go for a couple of weeks without doing a big shop but I have two teenagers that are fussy eaters so it is impossible. Many would say they should eat what they are given but Im afraid its not quite as easy as that. They have got slightly less picky as they have got older and the amount of meals I cook which we can ALL eat is gradually increasing. :rotfl: Anyone else have this problem?Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600 -

Any ideas?
Juice them and use the juice in mulled wine
Or for something healthier, use the juice to make smoothies (with a banana and a handful of frozen berries).
:AI want to move to theory. Everything works in theory.0 -

Make a chocolate sponge cake with (chocolate) buttercream middle and then place the segments on the buttercream and top with another sponge and more buttercream/icing and more orange bits if you want too
A friend did this with slightly watery satsumas and it was goodworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0
