Electricity prices worldwide

  • Switzerland's electricity is 60% hydro-electric, 30% nuclear.... and they have been planning for rolling blackouts since July.  They usually purchase gas from Germany or import elec from France for the rest, but no chance of that this year.

    Greenest country in Europe..

"The cap - the maximum amount suppliers can charge customers in England, Scotland and Wales - is £1,971 a year."

They have used the same/similar incorrect description several times over the last few weeks.
    They are now claiming
"Cornwall Insight has predicted that annual bills - based on the number of gas and electricity units a typical customer uses - could reach £4,266 in January, leading to fears about how people will cover the costs"
    And
"The higher estimate means the average household would be paying £355 a month, instead of £164 a month currently"
    Scaremongering
    I am paying £80
And know of nobody paying more than £150
You do now, last year on a shop around cheap tariff (2.3p gas, 10.2p electricity) our monthly bill was £160.

Under the estimated October price cap same usage would be £960 per month.  5 people in a 5 bed semi.
Maybe you ought to cut back on use then?
We went for years at £35 - £40 per month on elect and gas combined
It has gone up to £85 recently
Even if it doubles again - that's only £170
I don't see how anyone can use so much power
Do you leave heating on 24/7?

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

Cost is a little less than UK though.
"For an average family of four, the charge will amount to an additional annual cost of around €480"
I think the quoted figure was for the gas bill only.

This is not an increase to the gas price, this is an additional levy paid towards wholesale suppliers who are not able to buy the cheaper Russian gas any longer.

There will be an addition gas price increase, currently they talk 100%.

In Germany an "average family of 4" is expected to use 20,000kWh of gas (lost the source, read it earlier today) so it can't really be compared to UK where they decided average is 11,000kWh however many live there.

Bit confused. Where did I state it was an increase? I was just correcting a poster above me on their post.

According to Ofgem data typical user uses over 16,000 of gas, so this figure is wrong for typical user. It's an average, which is very different from typical (more close to mean vs average). Got it wrong again.
Can you provide a link to your "Ofgem typical" info please? That's not a number that's been used before.

Someone shared this Ofgem report on here before https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/sites/default/files/docs/2013/06/beyond-average-consumption-summary-doc_updated-june13_0.pdf interesting that 60% of households use over 16,000kW/h of gas a year

Nothing on that link says 60% of households use over 16,000 kWh of gas a year.

We use 4500kWh gas per annum for a 3 bed semi
I can't understand how people use so much energy
