"The cap - the maximum amount suppliers can charge customers in England, Scotland and Wales - is £1,971 a year."

They have used the same/similar incorrect description several times over the last few weeks.
    They are now claiming
"Cornwall Insight has predicted that annual bills - based on the number of gas and electricity units a typical customer uses - could reach £4,266 in January, leading to fears about how people will cover the costs"
    And
"The higher estimate means the average household would be paying £355 a month, instead of £164 a month currently"
    Scaremongering
    I am paying £80
And know of nobody paying more than £150
You do now, last year on a shop around cheap tariff (2.3p gas, 10.2p electricity) our monthly bill was £160.

Under the estimated October price cap same usage would be £960 per month.  5 people in a 5 bed semi.
    I think....
  • German households will have to pay hundreds of pounds more a year for gas under a levy to help energy companies cover the cost of replacing Russian supplies.

Cost is a little less than UK though.
"For an average family of four, the charge will amount to an additional annual cost of around €480"

I think the quoted figure was for the gas bill only.

    That's a bit of a selective quote.

Trading Hub Europe, the German gas market operator, said it had set the levy at 2.419 cents per kilowatt hour (kWH).

For an average family of four, the charge will amount to an additional annual cost of around €480 ($489; £404), according to the Verivox price comparison platform's calculation of an average gas bill of €3,568 a year.

    €3,568 is currently £3006.
For comparison the highest Cornwall Insight forecast is for an average gas bill of £2253.

It would be good if they separated Home and business.

We have been selling or transporting Gas and elec to them all summer, Germany seems to be paying 400-500eur MWH the last 24hrs, The uk has cheaper power than France and Germany currently by 40eur a mwh.

Also the "green" reasons /excuses are a waste of time.
Why should the UK always be the one who gets stung by the ineptitude of others ?
That's my daily whinge - sorry

My solar panels means I get a small amount of free electric, reduces demand too.
If we didn't have wind and solar, things would be much worse.
