Splitting the Bills

Normally on a family UK holiday, we have a cash pot whereby everyone puts in an equal amount generally £40 per time.
We then use the pot to buy drinks and food in shops or restaurants.
Always the stumbling point is one person has to hold all the cash and go to the bar, It's easy when it's notes but come down to the pound coins or change it becomes a hassle.

Can anyone give me any ideas on how to make this problem easy?

Is there a debit or credit card all 3 can send money to and use that for example?

How is this relevant to credit cards?

I would have thought ANY bank account would be able to deal with that.... how about a Starling account - everyone can top-up online and expenditure can come from a designated 'space'.  Although that will need the account holder to move money from the main account to the space...hmmmm.... thinking cap on...

With a current account anyone can send money to it and then the debit card used for purchasing... Starling would be a good suggestion given its fee free to use overseas but there are others.

Credit Card could be more complex as you cannot have a credit balance which means you need someone with outstanding debt on their credit card which then introduces the issue of interest plus some cards (eg Amex) are limiting who can pay them and others limit the number of repayments they'll process each month.

Use Splitwise (app and web).   Set up a group, each person logs their expenditure and sort it out after the trip.

How about Hyper Jar? You would all have to download the app and set up a shared jar. You will all have a card and will be able to spend from the shared jar. The only downside is there is no ability to withdraw from a cash machine.

Just take turns/buy rounds...?  pretty sure it'd all balance out over the length of a holiday.

I actually gave up trying to set up Hyper Jar. The amount of personal information required is incredible considering it's prepaid but then uploading doesn't work. Probably easier to get a top credit card or even an Amex Gold Card. Verify identity and residency sure but this app goes way beyond that. My guess is they need the personal  information to serve up ads!

You could use a chase account. The exchange rate is good. One of you would need to own it, but anyone can put credit on it by bank transfer and anyone (who has the card LOL) can use it.
