Mortgage and Debt Busting

We have had a good chat about what to do with money, hubby's job comes to an end at the end of Sept, he will be looking for part time work over the next few months so he can carry on with the training aspect, if he can get our dog trained up on another species it would allow him to get year round work. I have said to him I think it is important that we prioritise his time to get on top of this, he has also worked so many hours these last few months he deserves a break!
This will of course affect our income. We have freed up £200 a month now by paying off M&S, but this might not actually be there again until he gets full time work again next year. Therefore, we are upping the CC payment to £85 a month again, I will TT and that money will be sent to the CC now. When we do have that £200 I will use it to add to our savings, we need to top up again and also need to make sure that we have enough money for Budapest- increase in costs due to a third dog! We have paid the holiday in full, have prebooked a ghost walk and hop on hop off bus! Only need spends and dog care to be covered and we are very close.
CC is at £3974, this is our last debt apart from the mortgage!
We have agreed to sell the little car, we were going to use it over the winter and not use the 4x4, but we are hopeful hubby should be able to commute by bike to a part time job therefore makes more sense to sell the little car- should be worth around £600. We also have a white wooden bench we no longer have room for that we will look to sell. Will keep an eye out for any other items!
Mortgage OP continues at £50, I can't wait until we can increase this again. But for now, it is something!0 -
Oops it has been a while! Have started a new job, hubby has picked up a part time job starting this week. Life is ok, things all feel a bit overwhelming at the moment. Possibly due to so much change in the world and at home. Finding it hard to focus and plan, have almost chucked a holiday on CC a couple of times- I am very obsessive and get things stuck in my head for weeks. It is exhausting and usually only goes when I find a new obsession or I fulfil my obsession!
Keeping the house heated to 16 degrees at the moment, allowing to 18 in the am for shower time! Have bought a load of logs for the fire, this helps to take the edge off the chill. Saved 5 months of gas bottle payments over spring and summer so that will help a little with funds.
Looking to sell the car in this next month, will be genuinely sad to see it go!0 -
Keep your chin up - hubby's change - your change will all be affecting you It will pass.
I get a bit obsessive about things too... I think it's because it is something I can have an effect on. :scratchyhead:
good luck with selling your car.
Is your new job in a similar field?Mortgage restart June 2018 £119950Re mortgage August 19 £110470, … Mortgage November 22 £85600 final 0% CC 3300Home renovations - £65000, mid 2018 - mid 20221 -
Thanks MFD! Glad I'm not the only obsessive! Haha.
Its still Mental Health, but with Learning Disability and adults, so that aspect is very new. I think the most frustrating thing is I just don't know what I really want from work. I miss Dementia care though, so perhaps I will look to go back there in the future!
Have set up a regular saver at 4.5% and sent across our first £250 so this will be nice in a years time! Think we can only afford one regular saver at that amount at the moment, will continue to try and save bits and bobs in other areas. Have continued TT where possible and have been wondering about maybe sending more to the mortgage as rates are rapidly increasing, and we are still getting good 0% offers on the credit cards so I am not worried about moving them when needed.0 -
So had a tricky weekend in work, stayed late due to things going on and was punched in the face, never been hit like that in all my years nursing, it has really thrown me and I am definitely getting some anxiety around work due to it. Have worked a 52 hour week then 50 hour week, this week should be 36 hours and I am glad.
Continuing TT, hubby seems settled in his new part time role and is getting to train dog number 3 on his downtime which is positive for the future!0 -
That's horrific. I think it's a reasonable reaction to be anxious afterwards - does your job offer any official support if something like that happens?Start mortgage date: August 2022; Start mortgage amount: £240,999; Original mortgage free date: August 2056

You got punched? How awful. Are you okay now? What is wrong with everybody these days, they only seem to have one mode & that is aggression. Anxiety would seem to me to be a very normal reaction. To be honest I think to not be anxious would be less natural & more worrisome.

oh no!!
hope you are ok and supported. There are so many variables as to why it happens, was it excusable or inexcusable? Although knowing the reasons are little help when you are hurt and concerned.Mortgage restart June 2018 £119950Re mortgage August 19 £110470, … Mortgage November 22 £85600 final 0% CC 3300Home renovations - £65000, mid 2018 - mid 20221 -
Oh my goodness that’s absolutely shocking, aren’t you getting paid leave and support from work for this? Your reaction is completely understandable. Please take care of yourself and many thanks for all your work and expertise. CM1
