Aimingforthegoodlife said:Have scooped across some extras, I am doing ok with money and payday is on Friday so I should be fine with the higher TT's. If not, it is in my savings until later in the week anyway! Hubby got paid, so has moved some money over, this has been so nice as it has just been me and it has been tight. I knew we would be ok whilst he was waiting but it is anxiety provoking!
Electric DD has gone up to £75 a month as we were just under on the last bill- included winter and the fact that the standing charge is disgustingly high. Whatever, these summer months should show up credit for Winter. I am more anxious about the cost of bottled gas, last time we bought any it had gone up to £150 for two bottlesI am still saving that every month to help pay for this over Winter. It is hard, as we, like so many, are very careful with both heating and electric. Ah well, lots of people much worse off.
Another £50 sent over with the mortgage, that always makes me happy! Chatting with my dad on the weekend, and it is so strange as he struggles to see the point of OP the mortgage, in fact, in his opinion, you keep getting bigger mortgages to get the place you want. He bought his place quite a few years ago, it has great views, plenty of land and they have expanded it. The rise in its value has been incredible, I think he forgets that places like his are not affordable these days!Start mortgage date: August 2022; Start mortgage amount: £240,999; Original mortgage free date: August 2056
Current mortgage amount: £226,957.97
Start student loan 2012: £29,750; current student loan: CLEARED July 20251 -
My parents overpaid there mortgage too. Wasn’t a big thing in the 70s and early 80s.?
Anyway I remember seeing how they budgeted for bills/utilities with a box file separated into compartments. Cash into it at the end of the week. I think that’s how I learnt seeing there joint focus.
Well done with the progress you are making with TT and the interest savings you are seeing. Best wishes for your journey, I will follow your progress.2 -
It is funny how different people and families are, none of my sets of parents or hubbys parents are good at finances, we never really spoke about money, I knew my Dad struggled more until the last 15years or so, and my mum struggled as a single parent until I was 10 and she met my stepdad and they moved in together helping with finances. I have no idea what made me able to manage money well, or even think of OPing the mortgage, in fact I only know one other couple IRL who overpay now! Even my debt is managed as well as it can be interest wise, haha.
Have emailed my notice over today, I told my manager last week but won't actually see her to do it person as she is going on leave for a week and I want them to have chance to put my job out ASAP, I have actually given over two weeks extra notice as well to try and help. Also, fits around annual leave as my last week. 21 more 12hour shifts there!1 -
Sent over £90.16 today, as it was pay day so extra could go across. I will not manage as good a payments this month, but will try and be careful still and aim to do little TT's. I tripled my monthly payment this month! That makes me really happy, I am aiming to double it a month so this definitely helps to set things off.
Total payment this month: £ 362.48
I am resetting payments starting today as it is payday, was going to go up to the loan date, but makes more sense to start when money restarts! Gonna try for three NSDs as I am in 12hour shifts next three days, have spent a bit today getting overexcited as we went out! Bought some good birthday cards for next couple of months, paid to have two favourite dresses altered to fit my waistline- £24 for both dresses, bargain as she is turning them into corsetted backs!!! Amazing! Bought food- I am terrible at this side of spending!! Bought my mum a pair of earrings, she really liked the ones I bought and I found her another pair in a paler colour, this will be a thanks as she does random dog care for me! Also includes a good TT today!
I am already tired thinking about work for the next three days, have a day off, then back in for two! Ah well!0 -
M & S is now: £2640.020

Making sound progress, I’m with you on the work thing, my OH has shifts like that, thankfully mine are a set pattern.1

I left nursing about 8 years ago. I don’t regret leaving nursing but I do feel sad that I haven’t got a career anymore. I can seem to settle at all and consider return to nursing but I know I don’t really want to do that.1

Thanks @L9XSS, my new role will be a set pattern and I am looking forward to it!
@Moralpanic it is tough as nursing can offer stability, but I almost left a while ago and am still unsure if I will do it forever!
@Raspberrybush I know what you mean! Nursing is a hard job!1 -
Have a great weekend.1
