Hi fortune, delurking to ask if you still have the separate apartment and if you were thinking of renting it out as an Airbnb or similar for some extra dosh? Sorry if I missed an update with this. Good luck for Mr F's self employment sounds like you both have it all figured out. My husband wants to take the leap to self employed at the moment too as he is doing way too many hours being both employed and having a side business, very tempting!4

Hi there @scandimore. Yes we still have the annexe and let family and friends use it from time to time. My pension increase means I would have to pay tax on any Airbnb earnings and the council tax/business rates, extra insurance, etc means it wouldn't be cost effective to Airbnb unless we wanted to run it as a full on business. Which we don't of course because we want to be time richer. However, if our plans fail it would be an option.

An Unexpected Guest
Thank you everybody for your positive vibes. It's absolutely the right thing to do but is it madness to give up a relatively secure, well paid job in the middle of a cost of living crisis? Probably 😆
Not much money saving has occurred this weekend. I spent most of yesterday doing WI related stuff, some of which involved getting my credit card out 😲 I'm hoping to be reimbursed some of the cost though.
Today was spent finishing a toile. It's a top I liked the look of but I don't think the shape is very flattering on me so I won't be making it again. I learned loads sewing it though and even made my own bias binding 🥳 so it was worth the effort. The material was from an old duvet cover so it hasn't cost me much and it will work as a pyjama top.
Meals this weekend have been Halloumi & Watermelon Bulgur Salad and Sundried Tomato & Spinach Pasta (made with mascarpone instead of almond milk). Although I didn't get to eat any supper tonight as I had to rush to get ready to go out (we went to a quiz night at a local pub with some friends). Just as I was about to go up and get showered, Bren and FDawg found a little cat in our field. It was very thin and dirty and weak with no collar so I think is either feral or a stray 😢 We've brought it in and made it comfortable and provided food and water. I'll take it to the vet in the morning to see if it's chipped.
