I've only been notified today by JLFS of the date my Partnership card will become inactive (6pm on the 31st October). My NewDay Amazon Platinum card will become inactive at the end of next January. What to do? I called up NewDay about it a month ago and asked to have a new Partnership card without a hard credit check and combine the credit limits as I don't want to automatically get their Pulse Card next year. All they could do was make a note on my account of my request and advise me to wait and see.

I haven't applied for one yet as I see the credit limit being a problem, I sometimes make expensive purchases from JL using my card and £2k if that is the likely credit limit will be a bit problematic if I already have other purchases on there even though I pay it off each month. I have 2 other credit cards that earn points I could use instead so will probably use them more.   Shame because JL card was the one I used most and got quite a few vouchers with.  The code to apply for the card doesn't expire until end of December so I will just keep an eye on here to see what people say and any reviews about it

They won't combine your Limits as they are separate products currently the JL Partner card that is run by HSBC is closing so your account wont be transferred to New Day as has been pointed out on this thread.

You will have to have a hard search for the new Partner card as its now being offered by New Day who now have an agreement with JL to provide there card.

Your Amazon Platinum card is again a separate product that New Day have decided to switch to the pulse card, they could have quite easily have decided to close the accounts completely.

My Debenhams credit card was switched to a Pulse card when they went bust, it offers 0.25% cashback on my everday spending with a few exceptions.

You might want to check it out via the link before you decide you don't want it.

Ok looking card, though not portrait like some of the new styles of cards.

Thanks for all that. You've helped me decide what to do going forward. I won't be going ahead with either. And I have a better deal with my Barclaycard Platinum plus cash back card than the Pulse, so I'll be sticking with that. I also have enough available credit as it is so it'll be no loss for me in the greater scheme of things. Thanks again.
  • i have just applied for a new card and my credit limit has been reduced from £10000 to £2200. no good for me.
We are in a similar position £15k down to £1,350 and noone able to provide an explanation-“computer says no”.

In that case John Lewis - I’m out

Blimey, well that certainly seals it - Mrs Arty was already narked that the original card only gave her a £4k limit - based on what I'm seeing here, she'd be lucky to get £500 for the new one!

I wasn't going to bother applying for the new card after reading the above, but curiousity got the better of me.

£15k-ish credit limit was matched by the new card

    I already explained above.
It will be seen as additional credit.

Fundamental mistake many of you are doing is thinking that the new card has “reduced” your credit limit. the new card is simply a new account with a new credit limit. If you do really think that spending at JL and the linked rewards are worth for you, do get the new card, proactively close the HSBC version, wait a couple of months that the credit agencies are updated with account opening and closures, whilst operating nicely the new account, and the. Get in touch with NewDay, to discuss the need for an higher limit and now that you closed the old account, should have some room for them to do so.

Although NewDay are not famous for large limits, but one user Has reported a £15 k limit, so it should be possible to get larger limit if your credit profile allows it.

i have had to periodically close some card and ask for increases from CC providers that initially would not give it to me.
