Normally yes, but this is allegedly making off without payment of monies due 'on the spot'.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Just another thought have you checked the phone number to see if it checks out? There are a lot of scams about at the moment. I just wonder if you phoned that number than someone would ask for your bank account details.

Does a detective sergeant end a letter regarding a theft to a person addressed as Mr. with "regards".
IMHO there is something not quite right about this.

Dunno. Looks real. I've seen some incompetent trash from the Police when I reported something, including ungrammatical replies.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

If yes, this is being dealt with as a criminal matter and not a civil matter and you would be well advised to engage a solicitor to defend you.
100% agree its being dealt with as a criminal matter
Did the driver steal parking? Was the vehicle in the car park for a week?
I can see where this is heading and the person in question may well either get a summons to the mags court or invited for interview
They have been advised to seek legal advice for a criminal solicitor

It looks Fake, but the email address looks genuine and it has the correct police station address.
Call up the Met themselves on 101 and find out directly by quoting the number.
I can't imagine a DS would deal with something like this. It sounds like something they'd normally bat away as a "civil dispute" as there is no reason why the parking company couldn't go through the usual recovery channels- I.e DVLA NTK then Debt chasers then LBC etc. It is an usual one.
I would call them through the switchboard on 101 and find out more from the officer and why they are treating it as such and not a civil matter, why do they think it's criminal behaviour- what is the basis for this suspicion?!?

It is genuine, that isnt in question
I posted it up simply out of curiosity as you see so many things in the parking world but this ive never come across before1 -
Yes. I would think it'd genuine. in the background of the photo id royal mail tracked information.
The addressee needs a solicitor, and they need to tell them the truth of the situation - or phone the number and see if payment of the amount will make this go away.
I had a similar letter years ago for a car I'd sold about 6 months before - I replied that I wasn't the owner anymore and I didn't know who the driver was - never heard anything more.3 -
