Fit watch?

My Garmin Vivoactive 3 appears to have installed an update overnight and added tracking for the menstrual cycle.
I have checked my user settings and it says " male"
Does anyone know how I can disable this functionality?0 -
Maybe Garmin are being inclusive 😉How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0

I think this is maybe an odd question, but I also doubt I am alone.
I like the functionality of my Garmin (other fitness watches are available).
I'd also like to wear a more stylish watch.
Is there a way to get the functionality of a fitness watch and leave the wrist free for a nice watch that is as much jewellery as timepiece?

Do you need the Garmin functions all the time?
I only wear mine for exercise or general timekeeping, not for "best" going out wear.
I have a "jewellery" watch for that.
Saying that, if you have ££££ to spend you can probably get what you're after 😉
Like this...?

Hmmm, do like that and would be tempted.
Except, with the Garmin watches I have had so far, the battery deteriorates after 2 or 3 years prompting a replacement. With the watches I've had being in the £100 - £150 range, that is tolerable (kind of equivalent to a new watch from a catalogue-based shop every year).
I am not convinced that the life of that £2k Garmin would be any longer because, presumably, the battery would be no more durable.
I am not that sure the "posh" Garmin would be that comfortable if sleeping, or really doing exercise. That would defeat the purpose of a fitness watch.
I do wear my Garmin pretty much all the time, including sports and asleep. This gets my full tracking of everything including sleep, daily steps, VO2 Max, rest heart rate...
Also, the Garmin watch is how I pay for things so quite often don't need to carry a wallet either.
And I get text messages, e-mails etc.
Plus, it even tells the time.
I do also have a "jewellery" watch - it was my present to myself for my 30th Birthday but, on occasions when I am to wear this, I have to get my daily steps in a rush before I can get ready to go out. I'd never wear the "jewellery" watch for sports or asleep.
I had the "jewellery" watch and wore it all the time before, then fitness watches came along and the nice watch rarely gets an outing.
I'd like to go back to wearing it all the time.
I don't want to lose the Garmin functionality. I really need a fitness watch solution that avoids the actual watch part.0 -
Well my example was just that, an example.
I'm sure you can probably find a more "stylish" Garmin (or other make) that would do everything AND be comfortable.
But battery life is probably always going to be an issue on, what is basically, a computer on your wrist!! Compared to "just" a watch.
You just have to decide where your compromises are.
Good luck. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
Thanks @Sea_Shell - I understand all that but was hoping that there would be a way to get all the health tracking of a fitness watch but without needing the actual watch so it could go in a totally hidden place and leave the wrist free for a "jewellery" watch. Obviously, that would mean the actual watch and messaging etc features could all be done away with, so it might create further flexibility in how the device would be designed.
Clearly, this is a market opportunity waiting to be exploited.0 -
I think if the technology existed, and there was demand for that, they would have launched it already!!
Steps and HR can be monitored away from the wrist. Foot/shoe pod, and HR chest band, for example. But these aren't as elegant or as practical a solution as a do-it-all "wristwatch".

I was speaking with someone else about this and they suggested wearing the Garmin watch around my ankle. Not sure whether that would work - it would certainly make tap-to-pay more difficult.
That person mentioned that there are rings available now instead of watches. I thought they were joking, but my internet search confirms that is actually a "thing". There does not seem to be a Garmin smart ring, but it could be an option to explore (perhaps, maybe).
