Utility Warehouse

I have a telephone appointment with a guy from utility warehouse tomorrow and just wondering what people's experiences are with them? I'm coming to the end of a fix in September so starting to look at my options. He reckons it might be worth paying the penalty to get a current fix.

  • My experience was that the agent claimed I could save money. Despite me asking for a unit & standing charge rate several times giving my supply area, was unable to give an answer as they said it depended on whether I was a home owner and other factors. As a result, I couldn't trust the agent at all.

I'm happy with them. Their idea seems to be you buy a whole bundle - gas, electricity, mobile, broadband, landline and get one bill for the lot. Customer service has been, for me at last, very good.
Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!
  • Another satisfied UW customer here, too (for gas and electricity). We started off having a prepaid card (with "sibling" cards for children's pocket money) but found ourselves not using the partnered shops enough to make it worthwhile. Were good for pocket money with youngsters at the time though. Have been on SVT ever since we switched from NPower and have no complaints. Also, the huge price hikes every one else is talking about aren't reflected in our bills - gas is almost the same as we were paying 5 years ago (no indication of what it'll be in October though - probably in for a shock with everyone else).

What overinflated gas prices were you paying 5 years ago? UW is on the same SVT as other suppliers, they offer something like a £50 discount on SVT.

Can you tell us what your gas price is with UW? Or are you still on an old fixed tariff?
  • Haven't been able to access dual fuel type fix things - we have a pre payment meter for electricity due to NPower billing being so awful we got into fuel debt. Don't want to get into an argument, I am also happy on a pre-payment meter. It's been very convenient, and preferable (to me) than constantly chasing unrealistically "cheap" deals. Utility bills have gone up in part due to the failing of so many "cheap fix" companies going bust. How has that worked out so far?
  • Our UW gas bill for July 2022 was £6.933 per unit (kwh), standing charge was £7.64. Hope that helps the person who asked.

If you were really paying those unit rates 5 years ago you were well overpaying...by at least double

Prices look like they are excluding VAT, otherwise they are the new expensive SVT after the April cap.

What prices were you paying 5 years ago, or is for you a 75% increase from March to April almost the same price?
