I guess not many here actually get into the practicalities of breeding sheep...serious ramifications if you get it wrong!

On a rainy Sunday morning about twenty years ago I was listening to The Archers. I thought, heck, those sound effects are drowning out the speech. About five minutes later I happened to open the backdoor to put the rubbish out and found five large sheep under my carport. Obviously stressed, hence the noise. They'd come about 400 yards down the lane and chosen my drive for shelter.
I also have a sheep in my freezer thanks to a very busy young lad who jumped the hedge and produced 52 lambs before being caught.Love living in a village in the country side1 -

Hmmmm.... Nice rack..... (of lamb). And yes, I remember Dolly - https://dolly.roslin.ed.ac.uk/facts/the-life-of-dolly/index.html - Not really that long ago.
Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1 -

I looked back and got it. Years ago now I had a Dolly the Sheep experience myself. I produced a very vigorous cultivar of a garden plant by hybridisation and it was also a good new colour break. To my delight, propagation was massively enhanced, so one plant soon became 5, 20, 100...etc. I thought I was minted! However, due to dodgy dealings and stupid protocols within the horticultural industry, the release of this plant was delayed for years, first by bankruptcy and then sheer incompetence. When it finally hit Chelsea it wasn't in flower and the marketing was by leaflet! But maybe the firm I was working with had already realised there's a limit to the amount of cloning that may be done with certain cultivars. Just as Dolly aged prematurely, my plant had also passed through middle age fast and was becoming harder and harder to multiply outside a tissue culture lab. A few thousand sold just as other better plants of a similar sort came on the scene and that was that. A single year's entry in The Plant Finder and then obscurity.I still have the plant, or at least a clone of it. It's pretty enough, but quite average. I take care to make a couple of new ones every now and then, as it's not long-lived, but that's just for sentiment. Of course, Dolly's long gone....lived in the fast lane!

To be fair, it was the TV version (very early 70's) that I remember (I was born in 1964). I was probably getting a wee bit too old for it but my friend's little brother liked it so we watched it in a post-ironic fashion2

Has this discussion produced any useful advice, or has it been spun off on the usual tangents by those who like to ruminate or, worse, lampoon?3
