We've had our 40kWh Leaf from new in 2018 and have no complaints with how it has performed. Admittedly our limited long range journeys never required us to rapid charge more than the one occasion so rapidgate has not shown itself to be a problem. While now, £25k would purchase any one of a variety of new vehicles of greater range, at the time there was little else affordable to us and we have absolutely no regrets in spite of the seemingly hefty drop in value since.I'm not entirely sure, but at the time of purchase storage battery's were retailing around the £1k/kWh, so securing 40kWh's for £25k with a car and V2H capability thrown in was certainly an added temptation. I believe the lowest priced Tesla was around £50k then.Chademo hasn't shown itself to be a problem to us when charging, if anything, it's the infrastructure or limited pump availability, that is more likely to cause a problem. Unlike the Tesla Superchargers which have been trouble free in our experience so far.

This new Hyundai has caught my eye. Looks like a good package for the price*.
Specs look good with ~220 miles of range from the larger battery model, which has a tad more power at ~85kW (starts from £25k (£23.5k for the base ~200 mile range model)). Checked the specs on our 2018 28kWh IONIQ and it has an 88kW motor, which is a nice peppy drive.
Lot's of BEV's arriving, so not pushing this model, just able to compare (for myself) it to our current BEV for my own ponderings. Always good to see more choice, especially with the smaller and 'cheaper' BEV's.

A tiny 3 door city car for £24,000 (base)! - i thought we were past that point.
Alternatively for the equivalent price new a quick look onn AutoTrader wil show you and you can get any of the folowing NEW electric cars for less than the base price of this ...

All of which are proper sized cars with better pedigre

Not sure this is entirely EV news, though the article stresses the need to move to EV's. It's about the drop in diesel sales in London being about twice the national average.
It talks about the need to move to 'clean electrons', but I suppose that the big decrease in diesel vehicle sales was after dieselgate, and folk expecting anti-diesel legislation to be introduced. And then further impacts from the LEZ's.

We've had our EV for a touch over a year now, so I thought I'd see what its done to our bills.
- Petrol/Diesel - £2,200 reduction is costs over the previous year. I appreciate fuel prices have reduced since 2023, so 2024 would have been lower anyway, but the reduction is not significant where I live.
- Electricity (including new cost to charge car) - a £800 reduction over the previous year (due to load shifting to Octopus 7.5p (now 7p) cheap rate whilst charging). This is just total monthly DD amounts over the year, and does not take different tariff rates into account, but my DD amount * 12 tracks the projected years usage pretty well, and I'm actually around £200+ in credit at present.
I've also saved on Road Tax, but that saving will disappear next year.
The mileage in both years has remained at the same relatively low level - around 9,000 miles. My previous car was a 3 litre diesel 4 wheel drive, so those moving from a more efficient car will not necessarily see the same savings.

We bought a secondhand e-Golf nearly a year ago to replace an old petrol Golf. The price we paid was similar to the petrol/diesel equivalent. After 7,000 miles it has saved over £1000 in fuel and £190 tax. There have been further savings due to being on cheap-rate overnight electricity, but that's a bit more difficult to calculate. The car is also quieter, better to drive and massively reduces our carbon footprint.

I bought my 41kWh Renault Zoe in early 2019 and I love it. The Renault garage was nearest my office, not my home, but that was ok. But working from home sometimes, changes to part time working patterns and recent a change of employer means that it is now pretty inconvenient for the nearest garage to be almost an hour's drive away. Especially as it has had suspension issues, which I understand is fairly common in the Zoe.
So now I am looking to replace it, with something that's a similar size, with a similar real world range (that has a garage in my home town). The range can't really be less as I do occasional ~200mile journeys.
My research so far has identified the VW ID3, but I am somewhat out of the loop with the progress that EVs have made recently. So I was hoping that you all may be able to make some suggestions.
I have also looked at the MG4(?) but was put off by the type 2 charger being limited to ~6kW.4.3kW PV, 3.6kW inverter. Octopus Agile import, gas Tracker. Zoe. Ripple x 3. Cheshire0 -
What sort of budget do you have in mind?

The MG4 charges at 7.4kW, which is the maximum on a single phase home charger. It charges at up to 150kW on a fast DC charger.0

The MG4 may charge with a Type 2 7kW charger, but it's max charging rate is 6.6kW. This is because of the AC to DC controls in the car.
