  • @MetredOut I should clarify it’s not the time it takes to plug it in , its  the unplugging it when it’s wet / freezing cold at 6 am trying to keep my clothes clean whist I put the cable away before I drive to work. No big deal, just inconvenient on a daily basis in the winter, I find. If we had a garage, that would be easier! But I am not complaining- I would not swap my electric car, I love it.

Yeah, that makes sense. My wife has complained about putting the wet cable away too, but rather that than having to defrost the car, or leave the engine running for 10 minutes as some people do with petrol cars.

Most of our cable is in the garage but I have to admit we just drop the end on the ground when unplugging...usually with the cover on but not always
    I think....

We never travel without the cable in the car....just in case we need to charge.

I wonder if anyone has told the manufacturers about these “incentives”. Some of them might have been under the impression that the government had introduced penalties for not selling enough EVs.

EV sales dip in November, Tesla woes contribute to slowdown

UK as signed off on a law that introduces a major set of incentives for car makers to sell more electric vehicles.

In a bid to sustain and boost this growth, the House of Lords, Senedd Cymru and the Scottish Parliament recently passed a comprehensive package of reforms. These reforms, set to take effect from 1 January 2024, aim to create a more favourable environment for electric car sales, reflecting a strategic move by lawmakers to support the transition to sustainable transportation.

Why Sixt is dropping Tesla electric cars from its rental fleet

Bloomberg reports car rental company Sixt is phasing out Teslas from its fleet, citing poor resale values.

In an email to customers seen by the news outlet, Sixt claimed these resale value issues are being compounded by higher repair costs for electric vehicles (EVs) vis-à-vis combustion-powered models.

The letter says there are “significantly higher holding costs for Tesla vehicles”, and that the company won’t be purchasing any additional Tesla vehicles.

Hertz is slowing down its electrification rollout, reporting lower than expected margins in the third quarter of this year and citing EV repairs as one of the key challenges.

“Collision and damage repairs on an EV can often run about twice that associated with a comparable combustion engine vehicle,” said Hertz Global CEO Stephen Scherr in October.

“On a unit basis, we achieved productivity gains across most categories of auto. The exception remained vehicle damage costs, particularly those on our EVs, which we are addressing in a very targeted way.”

I'd be interested in details as to why collision and damage repairs can run to double for a Tesla, unless the batteries are damaged.

I suspect its simply due to them being very bespoke and therefore few non-Tesla are willing to repair them, so supply v demand kicks in, or simply garages charge more because its a Tesla (similar to a painter or landscape gardener who adds a "rich tax" onto their prices when they quote for a big house in a nice area). These are just guesses though.
