  • I did think that when I got the iX3 I would turn into an instant Beemer I don't need signals type person, but the effort of fighting with the steering wheel because I didn't signal before changing lanes makes it compulsory to use that stick and flashy lights :-)

    Lots of questions:
Are the problems with the Teslas predominantly accidents or unreliability?
Do they have more accidents or do the repairs take longer (expensive for a hire business) and/or cost more?
Is the repair cost the bigger issue or the retained value?  (I understand that generally rental companies get deep discounts off list for their big purchases which obviously help when it comes to minimising depreciation but suspect they did not get such a deal from Tesla?)
Shortage of parts, meaning repairs take longer.

To be fair, Beemer drivers rarely live up/down to their reputation, these days. I'd assumed they'd all been sent to charm school, but it seems the bossy steering wheel may be the answer!

I turned off the lane keep assist on our leaf as I was fed up with it complaining every time I strayed over the centre line on an empty 2 lane to cut off some bends or indeed changed lanes without indicating on an empty motorway....
    I think....

It's not really funny, (well a bit for not seeing it coming) but apparently they are suffering more tyre wear, as drivers are 'enjoying' the high power. And are getting into more bumps and scrapes ...... because drivers are 'enjoying' the high power.

I seem to remember this being mentioned for fleets of company car drivers, that incurred more tyre wear for the first ~6 months of ownership, till folk settled down. I think I have now reached a slightly higher level of maturity than when I first got a Tesla.

Maybe they can get Tesla to set all the cars to chill mode, and spoil some of the fun. Or folk have to pay a premium to open up normal mode.  :o

“Our focus and our work with Tesla is to look at the performance of the car so as to lower the risk of incidents of damage,”

It looks as if the considerable performance even from the 60kW standard car may be a large part of the problem. I guess it would be fairly simple for Tesla to install a 'Daily Rental' software option for Hertz that limits acceleration.

The parts issue is improving but it's still far from satisfactory.

How long before they start charging us for additional road surface wear?! I already need to make repairs to our drive as it wasn't designed for the weight...

I’ve never tried (as I don’t have a Tesla) but can you order parts for d-I-y fitting such as suspension components? Are there many firms offering pattern parts such as body panels and suspension components? I would imagine as so many Teslas (at least the newer ones) are on leases genuine Tesla parts predominate?

No spoilers, read the article if you want to know.

True or false? EVs are cheaper to service, maintain and repair than petrol and diesel cars

Legacy are now struggling somewhat with the transition, and Japan must be very nervous, having given China such a huge headstart.

NoFX were thinking of the major music labels when they wrote the song, but it can also be applied to (some) legacy auto manufacturers.
