Guilty secret (  ;) ), but having read the figures that CW and Grumpy get, I am trying to do a bit less 'point and squirt', or to put it differently 'grow up', and get some better numbers. Nice to see 4+ miles/kWh on my trips this summer, but smaller %age of motorway miles tbf.
    Agreed here.

We are trying to understand the consumption of the Enyaq in different speeds currently as we are likely to start pushing capacity at some time in the near future. Knowledge of such numbers can mean the difference between additional stops, so it's important information to have.

It's also important for the monitoring of battery degradation.

Toyota, VAG and Tesla have all recently reported on Q2 performance (April to June 2023). I couldn’t find a comparison in one single article of the 3 companies performance so here are 3 separate reports, each with a year on year comparison. Tesla performance appears the most impressive with sales revenue increasing 47% compared to 24.2% at Toyota and 15.2% at VAG. I’m not an accountant but looking at profitability, on the basis of profit as a percentage of sales, Tesla also comes out top at 10.8% followed by Toyota at 10.7% and VAG at 6.8%

Toyota doubles profits as EV push ramps up

Toyota Motor Corp nearly doubled its profits in its first quarter results, on the back of strong sales and an improved supply of semi-conductors.

The Japanese automaker saw operating profits for the period between April and June rise 94 per cent to 1.2trn yen (£6.12bn), up from 578.66bn yen (£3.15bn) year-on-year.

Sales revenues jumped 24.2 per cent to 10.5trn yen (£57.36bn).

    Volkswagen's Q2 revenue jumps by 15.2% to €80.1B

Volkswagen AG (VW) announced on Thursday that its sales revenue in the second quarter of the fiscal year 2023 saw an annual rise of 15.2% to come in at €80.1 billion.

The carmaker's earnings before tax increased by 6.0% compared to the same trimester the year before to stand at €5.45 billion. Its operating result gained 24.7% year-on-year to reach €5.6 billion. Meanwhile, Volkswagen's deliveries to customers went up by 18.0% to climb to approximately 2.3 million units.

Tesla’s revenue soars amid rampant price cutting

Tesla published its second quarter earnings report in which the company said it earned $2.7 billion in net income on $24.9 billion in revenue. That represents a 47 percent increase year over year compared to $16.9 billion in revenue in Q2 2022.

Is battery degradation really an issue anymore? Even the Daily Mail are reporting positively on battery life in Teslas.

There are Teslas on the road in Britain with over 300,000 miles on the clock

    • DVSA records show over 700 UK Tesla cars that have clocked over 100k miles
    • Some 38 Teslas with over 200k miles and 3 that have surpassed 300k miles
    https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/electriccars/article-12344229/Teslas-Britain-300-000-miles-batteries.html

4 year old Tesla Model 3s with 100k miles on the clock are still worth about half the price of a new base Model 3. I can’t see many 4 year old 100k miles ICE cars being worth 50% of their current replacement price.

Electric car owners issued dire warning by motorway services boss - 'It's a major problem'

Charge points for electric vehicles are 'sitting there with no power' due to a lack of capacity, a motorway services boss has warned.

Ken McMeikan, chief executive of Moto Hospitality, which operates motorway service stations across the UK, said the lack of power capacity for charge points is a "major problem" facing the electric vehicle industry.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4, McMeikan revealed that charge points at four Moto locations are 'sitting there with no power', leaving EV drivers unable to use them.

He said unless targets are set for power companies to provide enough power for charging points across the country, it will simply not be possible.

"Getting the right number of chargers is not a challenge," he said. "Getting enough power for those chargers to actually operate well enough for EV drivers is a major major problem."

EV leasing group Onto up for sale after L&G pulls backing

Onto, which operates an electric vehicle subscription service, has drafted in Deloitte to explore a sale weeks after Legal & General said it would not inject more money, Sky News learns.

Which is odd and does rather show a lack of understanding or a short-sighted approach.

The motorway service operators make a significant investment to provide petrol fuelling facilities at their sites.  I would very much expect that the investment required to provide rapid EV charging (upgraded power sub-station) is substantially less.

The petrol refuelling will not obviously drive income to the other facilities at the service station site.

The EV charging will require the driver to take a 30 minute stop and, hence, may be something that can be harnessed to drive business to other facilities.  I say "may" as, in fact, I think the equation probably works in reverse.  Drivers stop to use the other facilities and then take the opportunity to charge the EV at the same time.

Either way, the investment is able to generate a low-maintenance revenue stream and profit, so odd that the operators are not further ahead.

It is only odd if what @ABrass said is right. As you say, it is surely in Moto’s interest to install chargers and, indeed, that is what they have been doing. The rules about who pays for upgrading grid connections changed in April 2023 with the cost of most upgrades falling on the DNO as explained in this link:

Historically service stations have been responsible for all construction costs, including slip roads, petrol stations and everything else.

Under that model you'd expect them to be responsible for all their electricity hook up costs too.

Reduction in free on-site electric vehicle charging for employees

Research from the Arval Mobility Observatory Barometer shows a decrease in the percentage of companies offering free charging, probably as a result of recent increases in the cost of electricity.

“Since this question was asked in last year’s research, the number of fleets offering free power at their premises has fallen from 29% to 17%,” said Shaun Sadlier, head of Arval Mobility Observatory in the UK.

“As an effect of soaring prices, it has simply become too expensive for many to continue to give electricity away.”

However, the research also revealed that an increasing number of employers are offering on-site EV charging for their employers, with numbers set to double in the next 12 months.

The Arval Mobility Observatory suggests that currently one-in-five businesses (20%) have charging available at their premises, but this will increase to two-in-five (40%) within the next year.
