Hybrid thoughts?
After some advice on Hybrids and if it would be worth us getting a Hybrid for the Wife!
My Wife is a District Nurse so is doing a lot of sub 30mph stop start around the area for visits. She currently has a 14 plate Juke which she's had a few issues with for 5 years now and getting to the point we dont trust it anymore.
As her job is a lot of start start it hammers the car and so we are looking at just leasing so we know its x amount pm and its covered under warranty etc.
Due to the style of driving we are looking at hybrid in particular the Hyundai Kona as its a decent size but not too big for all the parallel parking she does
Just wanted to get some thoughts, such as would we see a significant saving in fuel with a hybrid

You would see some saving in fuel but would you not want to minimize other costs as well.
Surely with that sort of usage pattern you are bang-on the target market for an EV.

How far does she drive per day and do you have a drive where you could charge the car? Is she NHS does she have access to a car salary Sacrifice scheme (often Tuskers or NHS fleet?) there are issues with these but worth investigating.Basically get a full EV no reason to drag a load of unused metal around all day for the odd occasional trip to aunty in Oban (presuming your not near Oban).2 -
Sounds like a perfect situation for an EV.2

Its the outlay of getting a charger installed on top. Guessing they are at least a couple of k to get installed?
Just think of all the savings you will be making and enjoy!1 -

Unless she's regularly driving over 200 miles per day or is home for less than 7 hours per night then an EV would certainly be a better choice. Hybrids often average around 40mpg in normal usage. That's ~ 20p per mile. EVs charged at 7.5p per kWh run at 2p per mile.0

The EV option depends on hour budget and availability. If you are leasing, I guess you are looking at new vehicles. An EV on lease might not be too expensive and once you add in the savings on fuel it could be ideal. As a district nurse she should look at salary sacrifice through the NHS car scheme.2

Before you jump in, check out some of the discounts NHS staff qualify for under various schemes. ( I presume she works for the NHS)
Some are direct from the manufacturer/importer like Fiat/Alfa/Jeep UK.
Others work via current discount schemes, like the Blue Light Card.
Also there are dedicated dealers that will tap in to corperate schemes and offers for you like Motorsource and Griffin Mill.
We've had cars from all three of the above, Motorsource saved the missus over £4000 on her Suzuki Vitara and I saved £4500 and free optional paint (worth £600) on my Renault Clio.
Most of the deals are on PCP contracts, which means you have a set monthly payment like a lease but different options at the end of the contract but there are lease deals too of you search.
Motorfinity have lease offers and deals on the Blue Light Card website at the moment.
Well worth comparing prices before you sign up to anything.
