Just back from emergency 3 day child minding for daughter. Pleased that I managed to raid her freezer and conjure up a couple of (cafe meals) that she didn't know she had! Beef burgers, chicken grills or fish all served with chips, peas, beans in any combination. Clean plates all round and the kids loved me taking their individual orders. It saved her shopping for another couple of days and used up her odd stuff. New spends today in Aldi. DH is happy to swap his 48 pack (£5.00) Weetabix for 38 weetbisks at £1.79,My lacto free milk cost 95p/well over £1.00 elsewhere, 8pk beefburgers £3.49 (hope they don't shrink much as they are already quite small), a few sweet treats £3.20 (fatal mistake took DH shopping🤦♀️) all other items similar price to tesco. Total shop came too £18.39. Its getting trickier but I am still managing to cut in some areas.

First small spend for July of £5.45/£250. Will need to pop to Mr Ts tomorrow morning as particularly like some of their products but don't think that will be more than about £5. That should be it until middle of next week.8

Like @Greying_Pilgrim I actually shopped yesterday, but it was a combination of stuff I needed for the community lunch I was providing today (for which I am reimbursed) and mostly stores for next month and beyond. For the lunch I bought wonky carrots and onions (39p and 59p a kilo) and a savoy cabbage 65p, (and a half from my fridge) and used my last but one butternut squash from my garden last year. It was humungous, but the inside had started to look like threads so I only used a half centimetre of flesh inside the skin. I roasted these with olive oil, salt, pepper and chilli flakes sprinkled. I steamed the cabbage and slow cooked 2x2kilo packs of chicken thighs (Sainsbugs, £2/kilo) - that was 27 good sized thighs, washed, dried and floured, seasoned and popped in a shallow bath of water with a stock jelly, overnight on cheap rate electricity. I fed 26 people for £15 (and then my lady partner had bought boxes of Cornettos (6 for £2 in Toscos) for pudding. Pleased with that.
My split was £15.96 GC, £34.63 store cupboard and some treats (because I could, while on offer) and some cat litter (2x5k bags £1.55 each).
Bargain of the day? Basics washing up liquid 34p (to try). Speaking of washing up liquid, does anyone else do the washing up liquid hack with Fairy? I split the new bottle into an empty and the new bottle then top up with water and tip it around to mix it. Then they both go in the cupboard until needed - by when, they seem to have gone thick and concentrated again. I buy the next bottle when I start the second one, so I have the empty bottle to split into. No idea why, but it works to double the quantity and I honestly don't notice the differenceSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far
I also Reverse Meal Plan on that thread and grow much of our own premium price fruit and veg, joining in on the Grow your own thread
My new diary is here11 -
That's a good hack @Suffolk_lass. I think the reason it works is because Fairy is so concentrated and most people put far too much wu liquid in anyway so by watering it down it's still strong enough to do the job but without wasting so much of it!

I WENT shopping to A**a yesterday - first time Ive BEEN shopping in a long while as I shop online. I spent £75. I was pleased with this as I am trying budget £100 PW inc takeaways for a family of 4. I usually use Mr T's and they deliver - Looking back online I have spent around £110PW on shopping excluding takeaways so pleased to have spent only £75, leaving me £25 for extras (or better still the piggy bank!!) This is my first time doing this so lets see if I can be more thoughtful at shopping for food - the prices are just so high right now. I am a coeliac which means I have to buy some gluten free foods (bread, pizzas etc) which always cost LOADS more. I did see in Asda they are selling Goodfellas GF pizza for £4! I was shocked! I got their own brand for £2.25...still expensive but £4 for one pizza?!

@K2BT, I know what You mean. Kirstys pizzas which are gluten, dairy and soya free are now £4.10!.i am sure that we're only £3.50 a couple of weeks ago. At the same time I was able to get an ordinary pizza express pizza on offer in Tesco for £2.50.catering for Allergies and Intolerances is so much more expensive. Its also harder to find variety. Packed lunches for school cant contain nuts which is understandable but rules out all food items that use almonds as an alternative to flour.craft stash 2023 =161, 2024 = 119 2025 = £25.96 spent, 128 made and 5 mended,
